Dear stallion,I came down to the field and talked to Eckert after the red and blue game...talk about a tough kid, on the 3rd or 4th play of the scrimmage, he said Brandon Bonds came through and stepped on his foot after he threw the ball. he thought Bonds had broken his toe, but what happened was Bonds' cleat ripped his big toe nail right off. he said it hurt like hell but he knew something like that may happen during the season, so he worked through it. He had nothing but great things to say on the upcoming season, and that he is looking forward to 2 a days, and that the team has a lot of confidence going into next season.
As for you stallion, i happen to think that an NFL team would love to have an accurate, pocket passing quarterback. It is clear as day that Eckert is the best passer, and is our STARTING quarterback. Get a life stallion, i admire your loyalty to phillips, but saying that eckert and romo will never be anything but below average qb's is bullshi*. Read the article from the spring game on the main page of this website and then tell me who is the starter. Eckert has proven that he can win games, throw the ball, and lead the team in the right direction. Phillips had a good game but he has been very inconsistent during last fall and into this spring, and has yet to win a game for us. Eckert is our guy, and i would like to see him get four or five series before they put romo in to run the ball. Oh and i also asked eckert what his main goal was this spring, and his reply was being consistent, he thought he was to hot and cold last fall, so during the entire spring he threw one int. STICK THAT IN YOUR A** STALLION... Mustangs will win in 04
If you can't see that Phillips has a much greater upside, you are blind or have your own agenda, or both.
With Phillips out with an injury, Eckert and Romo were the guys. I'll give you that Eckert was the better passer, but he made far too many mistakes. Romo moved the ball with his running ability. I would start him based on last year's performance.
Okay, Chris is bigger, Stronger, Faster, and has a better arm. The only thing he doesn't have is experience. Chris also has the ability of making some big plays with his legs. Now I'm not bashing Romo or Ekert, I'm sure they are great guys, but Chris is the superior athlete and given the right experience, he'll win more games
As far as I know, no starting positions are locked down. Competition in 2-a-days will sort things out. (Besides, isn't there a good chance that more than one will start at one point or another?)
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
So 04Stang, what is your connection to Eckert/Phillips? I looked up your posts, and except for your first two posts about Bennett, every post you have made has either been about praising Eckert, or bashing Phillips, or both. You also joined the board on July 28, 2004. When did Eckert get here again? Methinks I see you in class on MWF at 11:00.
Busted??? are you saying i am a relative? or eckert himself? hmmmm....well, if eckert is a 31 year old man with a wife and two kids, living in east texas, then i guess i am eckert. get real guys.
You are right about one thing though, the only reason i post on this site is because he plays at smu, and i am not going to let all you low lifes bash him. That was a nice guess though, but no i am not a relative either, i am just a guy that enjoys watching him play, and also enjoy reading all the B.S. you people post on this site. I also happen to think Phillips is a great young man, and i do not bash his character, i just happen to think eckert and romo are better. Mustangs will win in 04
DallasDiehard has the right idea...2 adays will settle the starters. I believe that if our Bennett is worth the money he is getting paid, he should be able to tailor the offense to either the quick pass of Eckert or the athletic plays of Phillips.
I do question however why this board seems to think that Eckert and Romo are tied at the hip. Do we really want a starter whose running is flawed to the point that we make it a package deal with two players? Would think it sort of kills the element of suprise when we need to run in another QB to run an option play.
In other words, you are a Tony Eckert fan, not an SMU fan at all unless Eckert is at the helm. Real objective. And anybody that thinks the program is better served with Phillips playing is a low life? Nice.
So what you are saying is that everyone bashing Eckert is a low-life, but you aren't a low life for bashing Phillips? Nobody has said anything about Eckert's character, so we've only said about Eckert the same kind of stuff you have said about Phillips. You low-life.
Hey guys, chill out. Two different styles, two different QB's. Like Young or Applewhite? Who would you want at the helm? I'd bet we'd get the same sort of stuff about the two of them as well. My point is that each of them brings positives and negatives to the table. Eckert brings consistency and little mobility. Phillips brings inconsistency so far, but tons of mobility. Could he be a Young? Or a Flanagan? Or a bust? Could Eckert be a Chuck Hixson or a Mike Ford? Or be a McCown (sacked all the time so no one knew he could throw). I don't know. We'll find out next fall. I hope they both shine brightly this fall so that we win lots of games. I'd love to see us able to run two different offenses from week to week depending on who we're playing. That way, the opposing teams would have to prepare double. Imagine Phillips running all day against Baylor and the next week see Eckert pass the Frogs ragged. Which team does Franchione prepare for the following week?
That is classic. I was laughing out loud. Just send 'da money.
