This could be a good thing for SMU, if we use it right...it just might push us over the top to get a bowl bid...RENT-A-WIN!! RENT-A-WIN!! (Yes, there are some teams out there that might fit this bill vis-a-vis SMU.) :D

Read an article about the 12 games in local paper today. Of course, it all boils down to $$$.

Other part of the article had wake playing SMU in '06. Did the series actually go away? I know there was much discussion about the scheduling, but I would still like us to play wake, especially since I live close by to wake.

I understood that the series was officially called off, however, perhaps with the inclusion of a 12th game, maybe there is room again.

A drive to ark st. would be about a day and a half, besides that has no interest in me. (Plus my 3 yr. old son would be a handful.) All I know is SMU better crush them. I was very much looking forward to the hour drive to Winston-Salem. A little ACC action would've been good, same for bball. I think it could aid SMU in recruiting. Oh well, just waiting to go to Greenville, and Huntington, W. Va. now.

That's why I call Copeland Copeland. He schedules games against well known foes in the east which fires up our interested alumni living around these areas to be able to look forward to see a game. Then he cancels these games to play the likes of Arkansas State for an "easy" (nobody is easy for us) win :?: :?: :?:

Turns everybody in the east off to their old alma mater SMU. Copeland just doesn't give a sh*t about general (not big donor) alumni, or general fans.

In the past, I've recited big mistakes at the Independence Bowl in SHV against Arkansas, and 1 1/2 mile walks to the Cotton Bowl because of fireworks taking up closer lots because of Cavan's debut.

Not that I'm defending Copeland but...what makes you think he's the one who cancels? It's a two-way street.

If I'm Northwestern or Wake Forest, there is no upside to playing us. They could lose and that would be devastating to them. If they win, so what. I'm sure that they have found better patsies than us already. I think the only reason Baylor is playing us is because they thought it would be an easy win, and their alums want a win over an opponent that they recognize.

Hmmmm, after looking at the posted future schedules, maybe they haven't actually been cancelled yet? Never miss a good chance to dog-pile Copeland

OK, fess up. How many of you complainers were previously complaining about the schedule when we had no chance for a September win?

If you did you have no credibility complaining about the move to easier (supposedly) competition now.

Not me. In whatever sports I've done, I felt a lot better about taking a heavily favored opponent to the wire, than beating up on a patsy. Kinda like picking on your kid brother

Since moving to the WAC, our teams have faced a lot of teams we should
beat regularly to build confidence.

In tennis they say you don't get any better till you play someone better.

Those of us on the east coast are really going to need to consider a road trip to Greenville (ECU) in 2006. I'm definitely pleased with our new home in CUSA vs the WAC. No more midnight starts in Hawaii!

As for the topic of this thread, I personally like the idea (if 12 games are permanently approved) of trying to get TCU and UNT locked into a Metroplex Mayors challenge where we all play each other every year. It would give each school one home game and one easy travel road game and if we are all fielding competitive teams, I really think this series could generate some interest in the DFW area (I'm assuming SMU will soon join UNT &TCU and be competing at a higher level). This would still leave some flexibility with 2 addt'l non-conference games, so we could still try to get another game with an old SWC foes (Baylor, TTech, A$M) and perhaps venture out of the area for a "money" road game (I wouldn't mind SMU taking a game at Clemson or S.Carolina if we become more competitive) Anybody who can draw 80,000 consistently can pay an opponent $300-$500k these days

Wait- A 12 game schedule? Then a team that makes it to a bowl if they have a conference championship game would play 14 games with many dates extending to Jan? What about the academics that would be challenges by a playoff ystem uh longer season? They really want a playoff they just can't figure out how to keep from hurting the Einstein's scholastically.
Gee- OP has become a tad jaded when the NCAA speaks.
