oleary just got fired for putting false info on his resume.
so let get some facts correct
sanders came to smu, because this was his only 1a choice.
josh went to 1aa and led his team to the national playoffs.
sanders went down a step and led his team to nothing. not a first, second or third place finish.
a great qb does carry the team.
an average qb stays with the talent around him.
sanders had his chance to perform at the 1a level and was hardly average for wac standards.
only time will tell if he keeps on playing...
heck he was not even drafted.
josh will at least be drafted (i think).
short, slow, and never won the big game on the college level.
i rest my case with facts....

Not so fast, my friend!
I agree with a lot of what you said - but not all.
• You said a great QB does carry a team by that reasoning, would you say Archie Manning was not a great QB? He had solid, if not great, talent around him at Ole Miss and had a great college career. With the Saints, he had teammates who couldn't make the team at Highland Park, and he struggled through a career of losses and bruises. But almost everyone will agree he was a great QB.
• You said Sanders took a step down by going to Middle/Central/Eastern (whatever) Tennessee - but then chastised him for not leading them anywhere. He did, I think, lead the nation in passing. He was close to the top, if not #1.
• From his "step down" he got a tryout and nearly made the Titans... which is very impressive, if you ask me.
• You call him slow - did you see him run when he was in the Titans' camp? He's dropped a ton of weight and can cover a lot of ground. He's not going to make anyone forget Michael Vick with his wheels, but his quickness is greatly improved over his SMU days.
• I don't think any of us has a way of comparing the talent level at McCown's new team with the talent level of Sanders' last college team.
• Is your speculation that McCown will get drafted based on anything concrete (that you've seen in the media), or just your opinion?

Happydad-- You don't sound so happy!
I disagree with you "facts" about Chris. So I will address your inaccuracies (you call them "facts") and I will provide true facts.
1) It really doesn't matter if SMU was Chris's only D1A offer. You are implying that Chris should have never played D1A football??? It is a moot point when the guy has already made it to the next level (NFL).
2) Just b/c Chris went down to D1AA and his team didn't win the national championship DOESN'T mean that he wasn't a good QB. SEE STATS for Chris at Chattanooga.
3) A great QB is only one part of the team. I agree that a QB must be a leader and thus "carry" the team in some aspects, but it takes 11 people on the same page to get it right. SEE: How to play football
4) To even get the opportunity to try to make an NFL team is a honor to your skills as a football player. The QB position in the NFL is very competitive. They don't invite average QB's to make the team or even the practice squad. Most QB's in the country don't even get asked to a camp. Chris has already been active in the NFL. SEE: Falcons, Titans
5) Short -- Yes Slow -- Not the fastest Never won the big game -- See previous comment (QB is only one position)
There have been several successful qb's that were short and slow.
6) Just b/c you aren't drafted doesn't mean that you aren't a good player. SEE SF 49ers Jeff Garcia SEE: Kurt Warner -- Undrafted and at the top of the NFL -- I am not saying that Chris has proven himself to be as good as those players--but b/c you are undrafted obviously doesn't mean that you aren't any good.
I will leave you with one true fact:
Like it or not Sanders is playing in the NFL.

Sorry Stangaholic, Sanders is not on an NFL roster, and probably never will be. Where did you get the idea that he made the NFL? Being in summer camp does not mean you made the team.

Mickey hit the nail on the head. You ain't a pro until you make the squad.

The only Chris Sanders on the Titans, including the practice squad, is a WR from Ohio State. There is no Chris Sanders on the Falcons....not even on the practice squad.
Where exactly is he playing now??? Not trying to be tacky....just trying to get the true facts straight. Thanks.

1. YOU ARE CORRECT WHEN YOU SAY THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE GOOD.. BUT YOU FAILED TO MENTION THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN CONTEND FOR THE "CONFERENCE TITLE" AND ONLY HAD A 6-5 RECORD (IF THAT).
2. THE LAST TEAM THAT HE PERFORMED WELL ON THAT WON, WAS THE MARCUS TEAM AND HE HAD SOME GREAT WR TO THROW TO AS WELL.
3. HE WAS A GOOD "HIGH SCHOOL" QB WHO COULD NOT "CARRY THE LOAD IN COLLEGE".
4. WE SHOULD HIRE HIS FAMILY AS PR REPS FOR SMU, BECAUSE THEY SURE HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB OF KEEPING HIS NAME IN THE PRESS AND ON THESE BOARDS.
5. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH TALK ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DID SO LITTLE ON THE FIELD.
6. PHILLIPS, ADAMS, BORDANO, HART, JACOBY, FLANIGAN, AND JOHNSON HAVE DONE "AS MUCH OR MORE" AFTER COLLEGE AND YOU DONT SEE THERE NAME GETTING PLASTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE.
