Another IDIOT longhorn!!!

Forgive the tirade here - isn't there another Washington Redskins fan who visits here (Whatasteve, or something like that?)

Anyway, went to the Redskins-Bears game this afternoon. Pretty decent game, both teams played awfully hard, etc. It was actually closer than I feared it might.

Anyway, the Skins stopped the Bears with 25 or 30 second left, forcing a punt (actually a free kick, since the Bears voluntarily took a safety). Anyway, Chicago punts to Washington, and the ball was fielded by Eric Metcalf. I realize the Skins needed a miracle to get downfield for a score, but instead of either running as hard as he could straight upfield, or sprinting out of bounds to stop the clock, the IDIOT LONGHORN (Metcalf) waved the ball around, as if to fake a cross-field lateral pass. He didn't throw it, but by waving it around, he loosened his control on it, and when he got drilled, he fumbled. What the hell was he thinking? What the hell do they teach those morons down in Austin? I might be able to forgive if he was a rookie, but DAMN, Metcalf has been in the NFL since the smart George Bush was in the White House. What is he, 36 years old or something? What a [deleted].

Can't blame the whole loss on him, of course, but he fumbled the ball somewhere near midfield. With Tony Banks' arm strength, it wasn't impossible to get the ball to the end zone. (Granted, with Banks' accuracy, or lack of accuracy, there's no guarantee the ball would have come down in bounds - or even in FedEx Field - but at least he has the gun to get it there.) And with the safety the Bears took, that made the margin 5 points. So if Banks somehow had thrown a touchdown pass, bingo - the Skins pull the upset. But thanks to Eric the Idiot, that wasn't possible. The guy's too old to be that stupid.

Sorry to vent here, but I was curious - anyone know who was the UT coach when Metcalf played? Whoever it was deserves to have his whistle and clipboard taken away, because he's a terrible teacher.

By contrast, how about the play Coby Rhinehart made last week, stopping a bouncing punt just before the goal line and tapping it back to a teammate to down it inside the 5.

And people wonder why we always have to point out how much smarter SMU students are than UT players.

That's typical. Metcalf has proven that Texas players usually are the ones who can't get into SMU in the first place

Red+BlueDude,

Are you Whatasteve in disguise?? After all, how many bitter yankee democrats could there possibly be talking Redscabs football on a Mustangs Web site? Just too much of a coincidence for me to believe!

Sorry, Peruna Punch. I've never met Whatasteve, or if I have, I don't know him by that name. I posted my complaints because I was on the site after watching the game (SMU is still my top priority, of course) and I figured some SMU fans would remember Metcalf from his playing days at UT.

I haven't been back to Dallas in a while, but on my next trip down there, maybe a bunch of PonyFans can meet for a drink somewhere?

Sounds like you know Whatasteve - if he's an SMU fan and a Redskins fan, he's a friend worth keeping.

Thanks, R+BD - you obviously have great taste.
It's Peruna Punch(Drunk) that I worry about. Nice enough guy, but as a Dallas fan, is he worth keeping as a friend?

I'm not buying it. I think Whatasteve is Red+Blue Dude is LaMarr Hoyt, in the same way that Andy Kaufman had an alter ego. Eric Metcalf is one of the top-5 return men in NFL history, and so what if he botched a return for a marginal NFC East team. What, were the Skins' bound for the Super Bowl?

And by the way: Metcalf graduated in like 1987 or 1988, so that would mean he was available when we bought whomever we wanted.
