Pardon my enthusiasm but...I'm about to bust a gut! My alma mater, Sam Houston State (Div. 1-AA, Southland Conference) will play S.M.U. in Dallas at Ford Stadium in 2006!
I saw Coach Phil Bennett tonight and mentioned to him that I had been in East Texas yesterday at a meeting at my alma mater, Sam Houston. His EXACT words were: "You'll be glad to know that we've put 'em on the schedule!" I asked when and his response was "2006...and we're gonna win some games!"
This may not seem like BIG NEWS to the rest of ya'll but this is something I have dreamed about for YEARS! And it's gonna happen...my 'adopted' university (S.M.U.) playing my alma mater in football!!!!!!!
Again, pardon my enthusiasm!

Glad you're excited, MM65.
Does our OOC for 2006 now look like UNT, Ark St, and SHSU? Will that be it, or can we have a 12th game. I'd like to squeeze TCU in there somehow.

It seems like recently I read where D1-AA wins can count every year toward bowl eligibility, instead of every so man years. I'm guessing that was a contributing factor.

Yes, MM65! It appears there IS a Santa Claus, and his name is Phil Bennett.

So, MM65, where is your allegiance when the Ponies host SHSU?

I've got between now and 2006 to make that decision! Suffice it to say, I'm just thrilled that the Bearkats will get another hefty paycheck from a Div. 1-A school. This year, it will be from Texas Tech and the University of Houston.

this makes me want to PUKE! 4,000 maximum will attend this game. But hey-let's not stop there how about Sul Ross? I guess Texas School for the Blind was busy that week. Perhaps this athletic department does need new direction.

yes stallion, it does need a change in direction. this is a pretty good step that way. dont complain about the record, or what we can recruit when we consistantly win between 0 and 3 games year end and year out. it's easy to blame the coaches, but tom landry could have done no better with the youth and talent in the bennett years to date. just get your butt in the stands and support.

I know this school and I know this school's fans and I guarantee you that with a 2006 home schedule of - I believe-Texas St., Arkansas St., North Texas, UH, Marshall, Tulsa and UAB that none of these games will draw more than 12,000 SMU fans. We will be lucky to get 6,000 SMU fans for Texas St. and Arkansas St. Average attendance will be no better than 12,000 and that's with a repectable crowd for the North Texas game.

Do any of you so-called "in the know" insiders know what our final, audited home attendance numbers were last year? IF we exceeded the 15k minimum, and that is a big IF, then it was just barely.
Stallion's right, that kind of schedule does not bode well for attendance purposes. I hope the NCAA holds off on enforcing that requirement until at least '07.
