Of course, Arkansas din't want to play us any more after that.

That was also one of the worst moments in SMU football history known as
"The Ticket Fiasco" to me, and about a 1000+ Mustang/Razorback fans.
We were the home team, and Copeland only arranged for one person to
sell tickets at only one box office. I didn't get in until about 5 minutes
to go in the 2nd quarter, and there were plenty of people behind
me.

#79 on the list.... Probably the best game of my freshman year (I would say best game I attended during my college career, but the Kansas game was spectacular considering the false promise showed for the year).

Aside from the hope that this game gave me for Jack Brewer's career at SMU, the one thing I'll never forget about this game...

Arkansas scoring a touchdown and not even realizing it.

"Why are they going for two in this situation?"

They went for two thinking it was third down, (but in reality they scored on second down). Then, when they went out for "fourth down", the refs had to let them know that they had already scored. Pretty classic.

I remember I once went to an SMU game and I bought a coke and some peanut M&M's. The coke was fine, but the M&M's were stale. Damn you, Copeland!!!

Maybe some season tickets might be in order Mr Plano tightwad!! maybe show some personal responsibility and show up early if you don' t have seats.

Its always someone else's fault isn't it...

I once got stung by a wasp. It was obviously Copeland's fault.

I knew you sunshine people would show up :) Actually, I just renewed
my season tickets today so my tightwad side could take advantage of the
discount. 8)

This SMU home game vs. Arkansas was in Independence Stadium
in Shreveport. I had traveled after work from Plano to Longview to visit
my parents, and take in a Lobo game Friday evening. I decided to go
ahead and go to the SMU game in Shreveport on Saturday morning. I did
get to the ticket booth about 15 minutes before the game.

By the time I was able buy a ticket it was well into the 2nd quarter,
there were plenty of p|ssed off people around me. Who knows, maybe
this shoddy performance by the Copeland people is why Arkansas doesn't
want to schedule us any more. As Trump would say, YOU'RE FIRED :!:

This was the last game that I could get my elderly father to attend. I picked him up in Longview that morning. We stopped to visit an aunt and uncle in Shreveport that afternoon.

We arrived about 40 minutes before game time and got right in. I was concerned that there might be long lines with all the Razorbacks and did not want my father to have to stand for a long time. I do remember a lot of complaints about the long lines though. BTW - I bought tickets at the stadium.

It was a great game and a fantastic few hours with my father.

If my elderly Dad (SMU 50) had gone with me to the game, we would've had to leave the line, and listen to the game on the radio on the way back to Longview. He did listen to it on the radio from home.

BTW, it wasn't long "lines", it was LONG LINE, which is my complaint.

why was it copeland's fault and not the organization that runs the independence bowl in shreveport?

Because, I think they probably ask you when you rent the stadium is how many ticket booths do you want? DUH!!

Why is Copeland so unconcerned with fans that he isn't overseeing, and handling problems as they happen??

can you prove that they indeed ask that?

Hey, if I was runnin this show, Copeland would've been gone when he fired
Rossley.

Copeland didn't have his assistants overseeing what was going on ticket
booth wise, and didn't have a plan if we got overwhelmed which was
what happened.

Cavan's fireworks, and a long trek to the Cotton Bowl because they took up the parking lot is another example. At the SMU Navy game that same year, I had to park in the waaay back lot there where there is tram service. Sorry, NO tram service. I jog regularly so it wasn't a big deal for me, but my date had to walk about a mile+ to the Cotton Bowl.

the Shreveport Fiasco was the biggest mess I've ever seen at a ticket office in my life but technically it was Russ Potts fault. Remember he bought that SMU home game and was in charge of ticket sales and administration.

Maybe Russ scheduled that game, but he was LONG GONE by then. I guess it might've been Doug Singles fault, but I really doubt it.
