Tyler Lee versus both Ohio and Florida State Champs

Postby WorldStang » Wed Jun 01, 2005 12:42 pm

To think that when I went to Tyler Lee.. we were the doormat of our District with powerhouses like Marshall, Longview and John Tyler.. not to mention Nacogoches and Lufkin. (Wow what a district that was.. good thing it was changed-up)

Now we've won a 5A championship in football and playing the State Champs from Florida and Ohio this year.

Also nice to see a few Red Raiders become Mustangs recently.

Anyway.. nice story in DMN.

Yeah, I think Naco was the only team in our old district to not at least
play in a state championship game in the last 15 years. The Lobos got
beat by Katy in our shot at a title. Maybe the old district will get back
together if Marshall, and Naco increase enrollment. As it is though, I'll
get to see 3 Lobo games next year within a 30 minute drive of Plano.

Does Lee have anything coming back? Think Carroll would have been the better choice? I've got some Tyler resident/UT football travelers who were mighty pleased to hear the news.

Yep, that was a helluva district. Didn't Tyler ISD change up the districting for the high schools? I hope no one tries to be offended by this, but it seems it used to be that Lee was mostly white kids and JT was mostly minorities. Now I think it is alot more evenly distributed between the two schools. Any truth to this?

We are hosting the Longview Lobos on Sept.9th and then fight the purple menace(TCU) at Ford Stadium the next day. I may be into the Jonestown-Kool-Aid by Sunday.

Grider.. you're actually right-on. Unfortunately, when I was at Lee (1986-1990) it was still considered more of a "white" school. To make matters worse.. having a Robert E. Lee HS in South Tyler didn't help either. As a matter of fact.. Tyler Lee was the Rebels for years before we switched to the Red Raiders because of high tensions.

Tyler is strange in that it grows South.. unlike most cities which grow North. For that reason Lee tended to have hardly any minorities for years. I believe it's changed a great deal for the better since I graduated.. which is good to see.

Also nice to see us playing the Mesquite schools and Rockwall in District now. An easy drive to the outlying outposts of Dallas for me to see REL play.

Mike Owens has done a really good job with these teams the last few years.. hope to continually see it.

Yeah, the Lobos hope to add a few more Wildcat bones to "The
Boneyard".

Hopefully, you can avoid the Kool-Aid when we beat the froggies on
Saturday.

WorldStang, I can pick up KTBB in the Dallas area, and like to listen to
crazy ol Smoakie do play by play for the REL-Lgv. game, and your
playoff games, etc.

I'll listen to KTBB every once in awhile as well. Nice to pick-up and hear the games and David Smoak. Also nice to hear old Dr. Bob Peters.. he's been there forever!

I respectfully disagree with your comment about that district being broken up being a good thing. It was truly one of the GREATEST Texas high school football districts ever...especially when Texas High from Texarkana was included in the mix. Yeah, long road trips but some great, classic games! I lived in Longview from 1983-1985 and hosted a coaches' highlight program on a cable channel associated with the Longview newspaper. Longview, Pine Tree & Spring Hill were featured.

Hey, Mustangs35SMU...this topic is right up your alley! What say ye????

Actually the Florida school lost in the State Semi-Finals this past year. In 2003 They won the State Championship (2A)

Sorry took me so long to get here. Was in Dallas all week for the SMU Cheer Camp (came to pick my sister up from it, shes a JV Cheerleader for the 'Bos). While I was up there got pictures of all those stadiums for my Lobo website including Lake Highlands. I also toured SMU for the first time! OO Yes, Here I come in Fall of 07 :)

Just to let you know MM65, wont be able to come to the Baylor game unless this is false info that I've recieved. Longview faces West Monroe at 7:30 PM at Indy Stadium the same night of SMU vs Baylor  . But Ill be there the next week! Spending the night after the Longview @ Lake Highlands game then heading to TCU @ SMU.

PlanoStang-Look me up (PM) when you head to a Longview game up there! Ill also be at the Rockwall vs North Mesquite game when our off week is (October 21st).

Tyler Lee lost a ton but they have a lot of players to come back and have a great shot at winning Division 1 again. We'll see...I do think Longview will win District 12-5A again. For all you Lobo and REL fans that live in Dallas, I strongly! recommend you come to Rose Stadium on October 7th for the Longview @ Tyler Lee game. Once again, it will decide the District of 12-5A.

LHPony-Good luck to you on your season in District 10-5A. Cant wait to see what you guys have this coming year and how much you have improved since we met last year at Lobo Stadium!

On the old District 12-5A and 11-5A, no doubt that the district was awesoem! But to be honest, if I had to pick this District over that round robin crap. I definately would. That round robin stuff was so [deleted] all of our boys and it just ruined all of our chances to move in the playoffs after fighting each other to literally the death. The District was fun but this is a new age. If it was Marshall and Naco again with us all, I would go for it but I like this a lot more than the Round Robin!

OO I have to say something now that I've read the article...
following the 2003 showdown between national powers Concord, Calif., De La Salle and Shreveport, La., Evangel Christian.

Hmm I wonder who the only school to beat Evangel three times in a row is

Well thats my daily, High School Football Info! Lmao!

Before I go, here are the most current National Rankings..
