Reggie was pretty darn good. That whipping of Texas was fun to watch.

Someday maybe again

He was a first round draft choice by New England who already had Craig James.

PK,

I was at that game and it was terrific.

My all-time favorite was driving to Austin in '82 and seeing Eric and Co dominate the Horns.

In both these games I had UT dates with me.

Ah yes gentlemen, what a glorious day. I too was there to witness one of my favorite moments. I was unable to speak for three days following the game as my throat was trashed from yelling. Reggie was fun to watch and such a good team, if only Collins were a stronger coach, this could've been a championship squad.

it had a lot less to do with Bobby Collins coaching and a lot more to do with relatively(ie pre-DP) poor recruiting seasons especially due to the 2 probations and the loss of Ron Meyer we had already gone through in the past 5 years. Talent level was leveling off considerably

Yes, that is true that the talent wasn't quite as good as prior, but hardly "considerable." Still some very good ball players. Try to tell me that T Mann, Jerry Ball, Jeff Jacobs, Jeff Adkins, were among the "considerably" less talented players I lived with. Collins was a good coach, not a champ coach. I bet even Prof. X would tell you that.

If you are are talking about that 1985 team, I must refresh your memories! That team was put on HEAVY probation before the season started, but it returned 17 starters from the 1984 team that went 10 - 2 with a ALOHA BOWL victory over Notre Dame. We were in most preseason top five polls, and the team was LOADED with talent! The game with Oklahoma was moved to the last game of the season, and was telivised with Keith Jackson and ABC. The team goal of winning the National Championship went down the toilet early with a loss at Arizona, and moral and motivation were suspect at best. SMU did get fired up for the stinkin' Horns though, and issued a hide tanning of the highest order! I was at that game..........HOW SAWEEEEET IT WAS!!!!
