In the grand scheme of things, I suppose this is a trivial matter. But I'm curious about something I recently noticed while passing through Denton.

I drove by the UNT stadium on I-35 and saw signs advertising alcoholic beverages on the stadium and around it.

Now...maybe I'm mistaken...but isn't this a violation of NCAA rules? Aren't alcoholic beverages and advertisements for them prohibited in collegiate venues? And isn't the stadium used for high school playoff games, too? Wouldn't this be a violation of UIL rules, as well?

Perhaps MeanGreenGem can shed a little 'lite' on this.

What we should be more concerned with is how has UNT been able to turn their program around so that they have winning seasons and go to bowl games every year while our program continues to win 2-3 games per year. When was the last time that UNT had a winless season?

So, back to MM65: are you sure they sell alcohol in Fouts Field? I wonder if there's some sort of sponsorship arrangement, under which a beer company can claim to be doing its part to support education in Texas, without actually distributing beer. (After all, it's not like you have to convince too many college students to go try a beer.)

Casey: I'm pretty sure they don't sell it...but there's plenty of advertising around there. Perhaps MeanGreenGem can shed a little 'lite' on this subject. I thought it was forbidden to even have alcohol advertisements at an NCAA events, as well as UIL sanctioned events which I'm sure they have there, too.

In regard to the UIL part...
I dont think I've ever heard of a High School playoff game being played there? Maybe Im wrong but I dont think there ever has been one.

The NCAA allows conferences to set policies regarding the promotion and sale of alcoholic beverages. Here in Corpus Christi, the local college can sell beer at the basketball games because they are independent, but not at softball games because the softball team is part of a conference who will not allow it. So the issue has surfaced here and I am familiar with it.

By 'local college' are you referring to Del Mar College?

Actually, Del Mar has no athletic programs. I'm referring instead to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Yes...in a conference that allows the sale of alcoholic beverages, it is left up to the school.

(That Baylor Punishment is absolutely wrong. First, they shouldn't even be playing. Second, don't punish the kids that are there now for what Bliss did...let the transfer out without penalty)

I am guessing that that is the Sun Belt policy: If UNT can do it, then the others can as well.
