Word is that Darrin Johnson is moving well AND has cracked the 300-pound plateau.
Keep eating and lifting, and get that ankle in perfect shape, DJ!

NO

Way.

How cool. I had not read this before I posted above.

The way Bennett is putting together a young team is proving sound. YES, I still think we need 40 % of every recruiting class to be BIG MEN.

He came in at what, 260? That's good progress for a few years. By the time he's a senior, I'd like to see him carrying about 320-330 and mauling people.

I hope you are correct! The last I heard, was that he STILL hasn't been cleared to workout with his teammates. His lack of toughness, has always been a question mark with coaches and teammates. I also have heard Boren has not been cleared to workout, and is overweight. Remember Boren almost quit last year, rumors say he has been very inconsistent in his summer workouts.

Lets take 30,000 dollars as a year at SMU.

If you are not going to bust you BALLS for a free 30,000 dollar education along with great contacts for the rest of your life.... WASSSSSS UPPP

I know players from other universities that load and unload trucks for their job. SMU provides the opporunity to become something more.

WORK HARD GUYS.

Even if Johnson isn't cleared for full workouts, the fact that he's running well AND bigger is great news. I'll take it, as long as he's ready in August for two-a-days.

What's Boren's injury?

One of the parents told me there were only 38 players working out yesterday, not good news when camp opens in five weeks. Also missing were Justin Boren and Chris Phillips. Phillips is a reported no-show at most workouts. Cory Muse was still in a brace and limping, Darrin Johnson still not working out. Lets hope Baylor and TCU's players are taking the summer off, it's not like we're behind our competion or anything!

Sounds like our reputation as a school which runs off its quarterbacks will remain intact. At least we got that going for us.

Oh, don't get me wrong....... the coaches WANT him to be present and workout. You can take a horse to the water, but you can't make him have accountability.

Yeah, I understand. But by all accounts the coaches have also told him his future here does not lie in the quarterback position. I would speculate that has a lot to do with why he's not at workouts.

Come on jt..."by all accounts the coaches have also told him his future here does not lie in the quarterback position "? When did they say that? He is not scheduled to be the starting quarterback this year because he is behind in his conditioning and knowledge of the new offensive schemes due to his injury last year. He still has two more years after this year I think, but if he isn't interested in making an effort to get into condition, then he is sealing his own fate. No coach is going to say never to a guy with his athletic abilities, but if he isn't ready then he shouldn't play the position.

Well he was the starting QB last year and if you're saying he's lost that job because of an injury then that's a bunch of BS on the coaches part in any event. But I digress--I was referring to a post on this board a few weeks back, PK, where somebody said Bennett was talking about trying him at tight end or somesuch ridiculous nonsense. It was from one of the folks who attended the thing in Austin, I think.

jt, his injury was to the rotorcup in his throwing arm I believe and as I understand it, he just isn't back to where he needs to be to be an acurrate passer. So even though he isn't ready to be starting QB, he is too good an athlete to not get him on the field some way. My interpretation of the comment by Bennett is that this is just for this year. I may be wrong, but that is what I got out of that remark considering the context in which it was made. My point is that unless he is willing to get involved in conditioning, etc. and work at it, he may very well place himself in a situation where he doesn't get to play any position. If so, he has no one to blame but himself.
