The Daily Campus Editorial, July 6, 2005

Postby Bergermeister » Wed Jul 06, 2005 2:53 pm

In a scathing editorial, The Daily Campus has condemned the new mustang logo saying that it... "looked like it was conceived from a month-long focus group of arena football executives." In regard to the logos featured on MustangLockerroom.com... "Let the Ed Board be very clear, this is unacceptable." Also, they were not too fond of the football poster that featured the State of Texas outline as the main logo, but no Peruna.

Is this the logo that is causing so much consternation?

I am a traditionalist to the inth degree and (except for the white hole under the Mustang's leg) I like that logo. It's a hell of a lot better than a lot of the new stuff that most schools (see North Texas) are coming up with.

Can somebody post a direct link to this? The only 7/6/05 editorial I could find at smudailycampus.com was about the Morning-After Pill.

It is written under The Morning After Pill... somebody forgot to change the title/heading/banner/headline (whatever it is called).

While this could be an honest attempt to save tradition, the Ed Board usually mocks anything 'spirit' related on campus. Their point of view changes weekly. During my years on campus, they wrote about how the Mustang Band was lame compared to the TCU band (songs, uniforms, lack of a flag corps), how Peruna was lame and we needed a full-sized horse, and how the athletics dept is a waste and why we don't need one. Then they write a nice long piece on how 'SMU needs tradition' and to uphold the storied traditions of old like circling your pony ears (4 year old tradition), and not stepping on the seal in Dallas Hall (wtf, how did this become one of our top three traditions).

No it isn't. The opinion article under the title "The Morning After Pill" is all about what the title says it is about. If you can find the Op-ed piece you're talking about give us a link please, because I can find no such article on the Daily Campus web site.

As far as logos go its OK, but looks like someone decided to do a new
version of the Boise State logo. Just don't EVEN try to put it on our
helmets or replace our REAL logo with it.

MustangSally is correct. While I know that all eight of the people on this board who have been complaining for the past few days will find this editorial piece enlightening, the Daily Carcass Ed Board has a long and proud history of clown-like behavior.

Oh, hell no, don't put it on a helmet! Put it on a t-shirt, put it on a seat cushion or a coffee cup but leave the running Mustang on the headgear, by all means!

I realize that the Ath. dept. does not have the kind of money like UT or OU, but please, dont steal the logos from other schools, (Calpoly-SLO). The real fans that should be pissed are the Calpoly and Boise St. fans. We HAD (keywork HAD) a great logo... We should put the pony on everything!

I hear the Cowboys are changing their logo to a shooting star to give it that cool modern look the kids love so much!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

...the Raiders and the Chiefs are changing also, heard Norte Dame will be putting ND on a white helmet next year...why don't we go back to the Ricky Wesson / Keith Bobo days of the silver, no Mustang helmet?? Long Live Russ Potts.

Maybe this is a plot by the the Marketing department to reintroduce the old logos. Kinda like "new Coke" and then "Coke Classic"?
