the truth hurts, doesn't it? The fact of the matter is that football programs like SMU, Rice, Tulsa, UCF and yes, even UTEP (despite their bowl loss last year) are poor substitutes for the outgoing schools. Only Marshall can claim any significant wins in recent years on the gridiron. In hoops, UTEP has shown improvement, Tulsa has a good history and UCF has been to the dance the past couple of years...but let's face it...none of thjose programs briong what Louisville, Cincy, Marquette, UNCC and DePaul did, so the truth is that the new CUSA has a ways to go to earn any respect.
UTEP has risen from the ashes. The question is whether SMU can come back from the dead and actually make CUSA thankful they invited us. If we all do our part, in time this group has a chance to earn some respect...but no time to waste or we the new CUSA will be right there with the Sun Belt clinging to I-A legitimacy.

Imagine the future of CUSA, if SMU does succeed in resurrecting our program.
As a top 25 team, SMU would do more to improve the reputation of our new Conference than any other. By being THE Dallas school with its great market, we will bring better legitimacy with our history and tradition.
This is not sunshire or wishful thinking. It is a statement that our success will mean more to our stable-mates than other schools, especially if we are consistent performers.
Give the Frogs credit, for six years they have convinced college FB fans that they are comparable and competitive with bigger BCS schools. For them, I think the window is closing. For us, the opportunity is there if we take it.
We are not assured of anything and our record suggests that our hopes and the needs of the conference will likely suffer. But, if we do rebound in a big way, SMU and the new CUSA will be greatly rewarded.
Go Mustangs. Let's Just Do It!

With 6 or 7 wins in the last 3 years....might be a little soon to start thinking top 25. Unfortunately, the only history we have in the last 15 years is of losing!!! At some point, there will be more people who will have never heard of Doak Walker than those that have. When it happed 50 years ago, hard to say its relevant today.

alot of these "crazy kids" walking around with their underware showing never even saw Eric Dickerson play much less Doak Walker. Thankfully one of the truly good things the SMU althletic department has done-the creation of the Doak Walker award - will keep his legacy alive. Now go buy and belt and pull your pants up you juvenile delinquents
