Those who haven't read the or don't get the Mustangs Insider should take a look at the latest edition. Do you think the commentary on the inclusion of new logos w/ old logos is a result of our b*tching? Let's hope.

Here's a link to what they say represents all the SMU branding logos now:

Yep. I suspect it is. I had a face-to-face meeting with Shawn Heilbron on Thursday afternoon about the new logos and SMU's marketing scheme.

Shawn called me up and asked me to meet with him. We discussed the situation for about an hour. He said there was serious consideration of having a big 'unveiling' of the new slanted SMU logo and red horse but, in the end, it was decided to just let it happen without a lot of fanfare.

Shawn assured me that SMU's 'primary' logo is and always will be the classic running left-to-right red Mustang. However, as the Mustang Insider says, it was felt that a 'secondary' logo was also needed.

In retrospect, it appears SMU officials are trying to make the best of a bad situation that could have been completely avoided.

SMU and the Ford Mustang were the only ones using the running Mustang. It was and is SMU. Whoever is responsible for this is nuts. Why doesn't he take a job with the University of Michigan Athletic Department and try to change the football helmets? He would be shot on the spot.

I really don't understand the thought process here. Has this person ever been associated with another athletic program?

The next thing they will want to do is change the mascot. Lets go back to being the Parsons.

Speak with your dollars -- buy NOTHING with the new logo. Sooner or later, it will disappear, we can all hope. Come on, our logo was one thing that did NOT need improvement.

I'd like to see some goods with the 'kick 'em stangs' (?) logo - the one with the circle with the pissed off horse head and large bicep. That was both unique and interesting.

So does Richardson J. J. Pierce...so what? It is still uniquely SMU on the college level. Luckily there are some other sources that will keep the traditional apparel available.
