Starters 2005Can someone give me the projected starters (Offense and D) for the upcoming season??? thanks
In July, your guess is as good as anyone's. However, I'll take a swing at this:
QB: Tony Eckert RB: Cedrick Dorsey TE: Ryan Kennedy WR: Bobby Chase WR: Chris Foster WR: Reynaldo Pellerin OL: Darrin Johnson OL: Caleb Peveto OL: Ben Poynter OL: Brad Kieschnick OL: Martin Guidry DE: Justin Rogers DE: Don Ieremia-Stansbury DT: Brandon Bonds DT: Adrian Haywood LB: D.D. Lee LB: Reggie Carrington LB: Alvin Nnabuife S: Jamey Harper S: Randall Goode CB: Ro Humphrey CB: Brandon Jones PK: Chris McMurtray P: Ryan Mentzel Now watch as every one of those names gets moved around between now and 2-a-days. (The LBs, with Wilton McCray and Rico Harris, were especially tough to pick. I expect we'll have basically five starters, sort of a LB-by-committee approach. It's a much nicer problem to have than the injury-riddled crew of last season.)
what will happen is that whoever starts will get ther butt handed to them, and then get pulled when the other team puts in their 2nd and 3rd stringers. Then everyone will be amazed at whoever replaced the starter at the end of the games and wonder why that guy isn't starting. Then toward the middle of the season after everyone has been griping about not starting the backup we will start the back who will also get their butt handed to them against the first stringers and our thrird string guy will look great when he comes in at the end of the game. Repeat as necessary.

Well, if I had kids it might be an issue. I'm just discouraged by our continued lack of success. I was a freshman our one winning season post DP, and every year I was told and whole-heartedly believed that we were going to be better the next year because all of our problems had been/or were being solved. Well, here it is 8 years later and we still face the same problems every year. I will be at the games this year, and I will probably scream myself hoarse in hopes that I can somehow urge us on to victory, just like I have every year previous, but when you ask me who pissed in my cornflakes I will tell you, this atheltic program. Every year it's been the same story, we don't have a QB, or our line is too young, or so and so was injured, if we will just wait until next year everything will be fine. I give my money, I pray that something will be different, but so far there is nothing that has shown me any different.

Those aren't excuses, they're legitimate reasons. Sure, other schools have issues, too. When another team loses its QB and has to play an unproven backup, the team suffers. When a team trots out a quintet of 19-year-old OLs, the team suffers. That's why Coach Bennett's efforts to increase and improve the depth on the team is so vital. When the wins start coming a little more regularly, we'll all owe Coach Bennett a big pat on the back for adding athletic depth while simultaneously trying to improve the current product.
This is his fourth year. Those 19 year olds ought to be 21 and 22 now, and I do not think we'll win this year either. I hope I'm wrong. But look, the QB issue at SMU over the last many years has been nothing short of pathetic...both in running off QBs and in pure talent evaluation. So excuses and legit reasons don't matter, it's been happening.
Hey, what's all the complaining about???? They worked their tails off to bring us a new logo didn't they!!! What else could we possibly want?
