What does everyone think about Rusty?

He had a CUSA winning offense at Cinn

Will a year under hsi belt at SMU lead to some points on the board?

Absolutely. Everywhere he's been, his offenses have produced. He can coach. Sometimes it takes a while -- last year at this time, I expect many of the players were just trying to adjust, to learn Coach Burns' schemes and terminology. They'll be better this year, if only because all of the players are now familiar with the offense. The quarterbacks, especially, will benefit from a full year of games, practice and film sessions with Coach Burns.

It always takes a little while to adjust to a new scheme, on offense or defense. Sure, if you have a team full of all-America players whose raw talent blows away the competition, that makes the transition easier. But whether you're switching to a West Coast passing attack or a wishbone offense, it takes a while for the skill guys and the linemen to gel, especially when there are young guys involved. I have every confidence that Coach Burns' offense will be significantly better this year. When he made the Cincinnati offense click, it's not like he had inherited Florida State/USC/LSU talent. He's a very good coach. His track record speaks for itself.

Agreed. Nothing happens overnight. We'll see progress and improvement this year -- hopefully a lot -- and again next year. And as they continue to recruit better players, the improvement will continue.
