Hawaii - WIN
SJSU - WIN
Fresno - Loss
La. Tech - Loss
Rice - WIN

That puts us right at 8-4. That would sure be nice. And the difference...A man by the name of Coach Bennett.

I like those numbers. But you really think we'll beat TCU and lose to Oklahoma State?

I honestly believe we will have enough talent to compete with everyone on our schedule (I believed that last year, as well). Let's hope Bennett & his staff CAN instill that in the players and that we meet with early success to reinforce that belief. An opening win against Navy is a must. Early season wins against Texas Tech or at either TCU or Hawaii would be huge steps towards turning this program around.

I think we will beat TCU because not only is it time, but Bennett will have this team so prepared and fired up we could beat Miami...okay, maybe not, but you get the idea.
I don't know much about OSU, but I do know they beat OU last year and came close the year before that. That is argument enough. But Bennett should know OSU well since he has been leading a defense against them for the past years.

OSU has made it a habit as of late of beating up on out-of-conference opponents and bottom-feeder of the Big 12 (read: Baylor) while losing by large margins to teams like Texas, K-State, etc. They did play a few close games last year, and have played tight with OU in the past couple of years - but that's a rivalry game, and everything gets thrown out the window in those games.
Which is why we beat TCU.

You read it here: SMU will beat OSU and Texas Tech this year.
Coach Bennett has a better idea of how to stop those Big 12 schools than any coach SMU could have gotten. If there was one man capable of stopping those teams, it's Coach Bennett. Besides, OSU's offense ain't that great anyway.

I've brought this thread back up to drive home this point - don't get too built up about this season! We have a long way to go to get in talent and use it effectively.

How bad did we beat OSU that year?

Some people like to get ahead of themselves and believe they can be top 25 instantly. But, Jones comes in with a better track record than Bennett. This thread gave me a good laugh though.

love this thread. I think we could have a 'great' season and look very good at times; all the while 5-7 would be remarkable.

Someone call me out if I'm just being stupid, but what the heck is this schedule? Why all the WAC teams? I'm confused. Please explain

I'm certainly glad I missed those wonder years of yore.
Do you send these over to the Pitt Board for encouragement?
Speaking of Pitt-College Football Live interviewed LeSean "Shady" McCoy this evening.
He looks like the real deal with a shot to post some big rushing numbers.
JJ just needs to get SMU to .500 this first year and I'll be content.

look at the date of the original post. We were in the WAC in 2002.
