Mustangs35SMU is one of our exceptions, being a PonyFan before he's actually a Mustang. I'd bet that aside from players' families, the vast majority are either current or past students.

I have familial ties to SMU but did not go to the school there

...much as I wanted to.
Saw my first SMU game at 15 months old (1958) and have seen NUMEROUS since then...

My dad graduated from SMU in 1963 and I've been attending games since the mid 70's. I've been a fan ever since and attend almost every home game and an occasional away game every season. I love SMU. It's in my blood. I chose to attend Sewanee but remain loyal to the ponies. I know that I'm not alone in my circumstances or allegience to SMU.

Yes, I graduated from SMU in 83'. I have two sons and one just graduated from A&M but he is not a aggie - he is a Mustang. My second son goes to school in Tennessee and he is a Mustang. My wife went to UTA and you never know... she may become a Mustang too.
Go Mustangs

How can that be? Are you trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? How did he avoid indoctrination into the cult?

He started at A$M then to UT for a year and back to A$M. He did not like the fact that people went to game but did not know the game of football. It was - hey we win " I'm cool because I go to the game"
He grew up going to SMU games and I guess it rubbed off. Maybe he pulls for the underdog. Maybe his is disgusted with the HUGE budget and arrests and corruption that goes on, but nobody checks it out.
I really think that it is because he worked, went to school and did other things with his fiancee.

Congrats--you and he are both lucky he was not sucked into that vortex. Brainwashing is tough to recover from. I know, I went to law school for three years, and some of that still hasn't worn off.

Some of the dorms have air conditioning, but most do not. However, it's only an issue in late august when the students arrive. The rest of the year the weather is much cooler. The school is excellent, and the campus if beatiful and well worth a visit if you get the chance.

My father graduated from SMU in the 1950s (I use his old user name for these boards). I did not go to SMU but I started attending Mustang games back in the 1970s. I now have boys of my own who play sports which makes getting back to Dallas difficult.
