In case any of you are wondering why supporters become cynical here is a prime example of SMU details. The devil is always in the details. Talk is cheap and easy but it is in the follow through and execution that plans sink or swim. The commitment is our big deal, right? Our plan to enthusiasm and getting everyone back. Our hey we NEED YOU plea. Well yesterdays mail, Feb. 2, brought a nice yellow postcard and an invitation to Moody on Jan.30 to witness the unveiling of the Plan. Good timing and same old SMU. We can't even get notices to people on time. For those of you who think I am being harsh or picky let me assure you that the little things many times are what makes the difference. It is what separtes the good and the great. It is what gives one company an advantage over another. It is what creates CREDIBILITY. My message is simple. If you want me to give more, get more involved, and become passionate, then would you at least show some attention to the details. Show me you are capable of doing things different from the past 15 years.

OK, no one on the other board will answer my question....so I'll ask you, what was the date on the postmark if there was one? Simple question...how about an answer?

SMU's post office is very slow. I don't know if they mailed the cards out through them or not. But if they did, you're lucky you even recieved the card.

I have to wonder.....did BoazHoes write the lead post above or copy it from the other board as posted by Mailbag. If I understand who the posters are around here, BoazHoes is a student and therefore gets his mail through the SMU post office which is known to be slow plus, being a student, I wonder how often he actually checks his mailbox. Also, as a student, why would he be getting one of these notices anyway????

I got my announcement on 2-2-02. Three days after the forum. There is no excuse for this. You can blame the post office. You can claim that emails were sent out. The bottom line is that a lot of people don't use emails and their only source of information on such a thing is the US mail.

I only knew about the meeting because it was announced at the Tulsa Bball game. I was out of town the next week, so I could not check emails, not that I do anyway.

There was no date on the postcard. But I received the card on 2-2 for an event on 1-30. No EXCUSES! NONE! ZERO!

Let's try something different at SMU. Hold someone at the university responsible for this. It happened and don't blame anyone outside of the school.

Mickey, according to a post on the other board, the notices were mailed out 1/22 (Eight days before the event) at the SMU post office. This is one reason they are trying to use e-mail as much as possible. If you try sending things out even earlier, and the post office actually delivers them in a timely fashion, folks will get a notice too early and some will forget. This is why it was announced at games, radio coverage of games and even an article in the newspaper the day before.

Lighten up and try supporting the Athletic Department instead of lamblasting them. Have you thought of volunteering some of your time to help them get these things out on time????

PK get real! Stop acting like the poster boy SMU fan. Mine was postmarked on the 23rd. Way to late! A lot of peolpe need time to make travel arrangements a few days in advance. Houston fans aren't at the games, don't hear the radio, etc. If I was a living in Houston and missed it I'd have been pretty pissed at SMU for their lack of details. There is no excuse for this! I support SMU with my heart and sole and want nothing but the best for us here on campus. However I am sick of being let down by inconsistancy!

For what it's worth, I also received my invite several days after the show. Luckily, you guys keep me pretty well informed.

I'm just disheartened by the effect this may have had on those who would have liked to have been there. Certainly better early (and they forger) than late, where benefactors might feel jilted. If the card got there too early and they forgot to attend, maybe they'd feel guilty and pledge some more $$.

Somebody has to.....you may be sick of the inconsistancy, but I am sick and tired of all the belly aching and [deleted] that goes on everytime the Athletic Department/Mustang Club tries to do something positive. Could they do better....many times probably so. Have you been over to see how small a staff they have....how old their equipment is? They are having to use computers you and your kids would laugh at. They work in offices the size of a walk in closet. How about all you fine fans that have all this time to [deleted] use some of that time to volunteer to help them get things done on time....help them recruit new members to the Mustang Club to increase revenue....share with them your good ideas on making this program better. It is a hell of a lot easier to sit back and complain all the time and expect someone else to make everything perfect than it is to actully get involved and be a part of making eveything perfect.

Last year a lot of SMU "fans" said they were going to withhold their contributions until Cavan was gone....well he is gone and those folks need to pony up including a little extra for what they withheld last year. It hasn't been easy being a Pony Fan the last 12 years, but in this city of only supporting "winners" I guess it's not hard to understand our fan"loyalty". So accuse me of trying to be the SMU fan poster boy if you want....what's your claim to fame????

Congratulations. I suppose someone was bound to take credit....it might as well be you.

PK your right up there with best of them when it comes to [deleted] and belly aching so spare us the lecture!

I may very well be up there with the best of them, but the aim of my [deleted] is not at the Athletic Department and Mustang Club. For the most part, the posters on THIS board don't need my lecture, but there are a number of so called fans that do....especially on the other board.

Then what in the world is the Mustang Club doing with the money???

The purpose of the Mustang Club is to raise funds to support the student athletes by providing scholarship funds and supplimenting the operating budget of the Athletic Department.

www.smumustangs.com/mustangclub/default.asp

The reality, over at least the last 12 years, has been to use the money to help reduce the operating deficit. The Mustang Club is not some little exclusive club.....it is open to any SMU fan for as little as $50 a year ($25 a year for new grads). As of right now there are roughly only 2,000 members (a goodly number of which are in at the minimum level).

The money is not going to provide elaborate offices and furnishings much less state of the art computer equipment....just walk over to their offices at Moody and see for yourself. The budgeted amount for non-team essential items is pathetic.

Not only do we need more members and thus more funds, but we need more season ticket holders to fill up our stadium and also help pay for the operating expenses. If everyone wants this program to be first rate, then we are all going to have to dig into our pockets and contribute and provide some volunteer time to help out. Lecture over....there will be a pop quiz next week.

The only organized volunteer operation the Mustang Club has that I am aware of is the annual fund drive which is currently underway. I can think of some other times they probably could use help is when they have large mailings to get out or need people to man tables at sporting events to solicit memberships, etc. If you are interested in helping, and I'm not just talking about you PPP, just call 214-SMU-CLUB and tell them you would like to volunteer some time to help them out and ask them to put your name on a call up list if they have one. If they don't have a call up list, suggest they start one. Thanks for asking PPP.

Best place to volunteer is during the Mustang Club "Commitment" fund drive. Or, at the very least, make your own commitment. Call 214-SMU-CLUB.
