Cougar High's goals Vs.SMU's goals

Postby dcpony » Sun Aug 21, 2005 12:12 pm

I wonder what our goals are. Anyway, since I'm orginally from Houston, and I have a sibling currently attending Cougar High I ocasionally visit their website.

I really like what Dave Maggard and Art Briles are doing over there.
UH schedules tough opponents and seeks to promote the program locally and nationally. They're very agressive and Briles is a genius. I love watching the Cougars offense.

When Maggard took over as AD at Miami the program was about to be shut down, but he turned that ship around and the rest is history. He'll probably do the same at Cougar High.

I'll give them some credit...at least they're using the right colors on their banner.

Go red. Go blue. Go SMU!!!

Houston

C'mon aggie, drop the Cougar High reference. FWIW, I'm a UH grad (BBA '91) and do a lot of recruiting at the Cox School.

Houston seems to be doing things right, as does SMU. Maggard took a risk in hiring Briles but he didn't have a barrowful of cash. Briles is a former player for Bill Yeoman and was very successful at Stephenville HS and runs a unique offense which is probably important for a non-BCS school to make inroads. We won right away and went to the Hawaii Bowl in our first year with Art Briles. Last year, we took a step back and finished 3-8, same as SMU.

Like the Ponies, we're adding depth and scheduling tough OOC games (Oregon and Mississippi State this year -- Nebraska backed out). I'm more confident in the Cougars chances because they have a strong, third year QB who knows the system well. QB Kevin Kolb turned down Ok State to go to UH and performs very well. We also have a stable of RBs but OL is a question due to depth.

The Ponies need a win over Baylor or TCU and will have a nice start to the season. Solve the QB situation over the course of the year, and things may start clicking for SMU. See you at Ford on 9/3.

I hoping I make it down for that game. I'm definitley going to the Marshall game with some of my fellow Mustangs in the DC area.
