hey GunPeruna did you see your Texas Tech Red Raiders went over 40,000 in season tickets this year for the first time. Pretty impressive especially when considering they play Florida Atlantic Ocean , Sam Houston State Monument and Indiana State YMCA and School of the Blind in their first 3 home games. I'd say its time to deck Jones Stadium. BTW as I've always maintained that's the reason Tech plays these schools because they can schedule 7-8 home games without have to go on the road and receive a small cut of the visiting teams take home check. Multiply that by about $50 a ticket plus parking, plus concessions plus home team TV rights and you are talking about a fortune. SMU does not have the luxury of playing a heavy slate of these beanbags every year because it doesn't make economic sense. As I think will be obvious next Saturday Nite SMU Football needs the excitement of quality opponents that attract crowds and recruits to compete. The 2006 SMU schudule is a disaster waiting to happen at Ford and in recruiting and should not be tolerated in the future. If 8,000 SMU fans showed up I'd be surprised.

why don't you let your team play 2005's schedule before proclaiming them as total losers?

I'm talking economics and traditional rivalries. I've already said there is no reason SMU can't be competitive at HOME against Baylor-at least this year. The Seven Sisters of the Southland Conference is a reference to Stephen F. Austin, Southwest Texas St., Arkansas St and NTSU who have replaced traditional rivals on our schedule in 2006.

Stallion: while I agree with the point I think you're trying to make, let's not get carried away with the "what makes economic sense" argument...at least don't go so far as to include UNT withy Sam Houston and Ark St. That game with the mean greenies will draw better than Houston, Rice, Tulsa, etc...

Bottom line is that SMU's paltry fan base is what landed us where we are. Moreso than any death penalty

yeah I've gone on record many years ago saying that SMU in its present economic situation ought to play NTSU every year. You and I were some of the first to advocate that game I think. But they were a team included in the mythical Seven Sisters of the Southland Conference reference. A game between SMU and NTSU would be a local highlite for the media, would draw very well and would allow an extra "Metroplex home game" every other year for both schools with little travel costs. SMU is desperately in need of heated rivalries-its what college football is about. Just as Rice learned it could benefit from playing UH SMU will benefit from playing NTSU. And if we can't beat them-do something about it.
