in case you missed it, in reference to TCU's NOT having played all that ell themselves:

"They should be better next weekend when they meet SMU, a team that not long ago measured up as their rivals. Now, the only thing TCU and SMU football have in common is Interstate 30. Competitively, they are light years apart.

Indeed, none of TCU's shortcomings Saturday seemed a result of it being rattled in a place, and against a team, that usually strikes fear in most opponents. This is out of SMU's league"

The truth hurts!!!

Will this SMU team be rattled next week...or angry for revenge? Surely they haven't forgotten 44-0. The question is how our guys will react.

Desire is no substitute for a talented QB

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Sep 04, 2005 1:42 pm

Wanting to win doesn't make it happen. The SMU QB problem was the cause of our loss to Baylor and will make it even worse against TCU. We don't have a fix this year for what is wrong with the offense. Hence, the defense will be over taxed and will eventually succomb to a stronger team. We are in for any long losing season.

just a second here. we may not have nfl caliber quarterbacks, but they sure aren't the whole or even main reason we lost last night. eckert was in the game at the end because we were down two scores, had to pass, and he is the best passer of the two. (phillips fans please read: he may be talented, he may be injured, and he has not competed well enough to move above third on the depth chart.) neither qb moved the team through the air last night in part because our offensive scheme and line did not protect them well enough, which is always a danger with a spread offense. those passes knocked down from a backpedaling eckert weren't all or even mainly his fault. but we still were in this game into the second half. we have some speed, though, and a little impovement could bring us an upset and a shot to compete in cusa. that's what we need now. a nice upset. let's not give up already.

TCU is not light years better than us. The frogs played a great game against a bad OU team. OU will lose alot more games this year. Hats off to the frogs!! I give them credit for not be intimidated by the crowd at Norman. I guess will have to wait till saturday but I bet it will be closer than people think.

Dont know what game you watched, Sam, but the worst qb on the field was BU Bell. Stats aside he kept them out of the endzone & us in the game.

Only bruiser Mosley made the difference on the BU offensive side. The difference was our defense played too many minutes on the field.

You are nuts. OU will finish the year in the top 25. TCU missed a bowl last year by a game and went to 6 bowl games in a row before that. Last year, they had a hurt QB that is now 11-2 as a starter. Rarely have the SMU-TCU games been competitive.

Agreed. If Bell had played a better game, we would have pulled ahead and won with ease. Bell threw two very costly interceptions that could have ended in a bad loss. He also screwed up the goalline play. He should have run, he could have just laid down and gotten the first down, or lowered his shoulder and possibly gotten the TD, instead he threw the ball away.

He was definitely pressing, trying to prove himself as the right QB (over Parks), but that's not his game. He should have just stuck to being the bus driver, a job at which he can excel.

Romo looked good, and I think Phillips has a really bright future. Hopefully both will get more playing time against TCU.

Good luck against the Toads.

Prior to 44-0 last year, we played them within 6-8 pts 3 years in a row.

"Prior to 44-0 last year, we played them within 6-8 pts 3 years in a row."

Don't think so:

2001 38-10
2002 17-6
2003 20-13
2004 44-0

2003 only fits your "facts" and that was after the tough loss to SoMiss. Don't ask about 2000.

It hurts SMU that this game come early instead of late. Last season SMU might have knocked off TCU if the game was in November instead of Sept. This year I don't think it will matter. First game is out of the way and TCU looked good, SMU didn't. If Bennett gets your guys fired up they will keep it close, but getting your guys up for the game will be tough.

Huh? You don't think they'll be able to get up for a TCU game?
We might not win it, but the guys sure as hell will lay it all out there.

they have the No. 1 recruit in the entire Nation a couple of years ago at QB in Bomar. Its not nearly as bleak as it appears.
