What happened to GivensWhat happened to Columbus Givins? I thought I saw him on the field in the first quarter but not after that although I could have missed him. If we are not going to use him on a regular basis, why give up a red shirt year?
He's bad, but Cavan was just as bad.
I never thought I would see people on this board debating who is worse--Cavan or Bennett.
What we have with SMU football is a problem so deep, so profound that one man cannot be held responsible. It is systemic. Permeates the entire university. I'm not sure their is a solution, to be frank. It would require a whole new mind-set. Someone of true vision would have to take over. Even then he would have to convince the President and board to follow him. Personally I don't see it happening. We were in a downward spiral, but it does seem that we have leveled off somwhere between horrible and mediocre.
no actually we are better at just about every position on the field except QB where we are playing Division 1-AA caliber players. Defensive Line is another area which may be lower but so far so good. I thought their performance was acceptable-better than I thought it would be except for the fact that they were just on the field too long.
I guess I was trying to say that we were horrible with Cavan and are now a little better than horrible with Bennett. I have stopped blaming SMU coaches. Their hands are tied by the aforementioned. I don't think Vince Lombardi could come in here and win. There is just no support at the top. When the Board and President hold a press conference to say SMU football is a top priority and changes are made that indicate their words are not hollow I may give them the benefit of the doubt. Until then we are and will remain a little better then horrible.
I think Givens was the one with the reverse play, but Baylor had a face mask penalty. I cannot remember seeing him after that.
