- Calvin from DMN didn't show up... that's nice
- D-line held up well. Problems at the end of the game were tackling problems from the LBs, Safties. Subliminal translation was "that's what happens when 200 lb players play 80 plays on defense".
- Pointed out that Rogers played really well, and so did Bonds and Haywood. Rogers and Harper were both out for parts of the last two drives with cramps.
- Muse pulled his hammy on Thursday, which is why he didn't play. He is an "integral part". He will play against TCU
- 4th and 4. Went for it because our defense was so good. He felt that if we scored there, especially if it was a TD, we would be up 14-3 and have broken Baylor because our defense had been so dominant. The same play against the same defense had gotten us 9 yards on third and three earlier in the game, so he thought the play was there.
- Romo will start at TCU. Eckert was disappointing, "but will be better". Put Eckert back in because TCU loaded the box, Romo checked to a pass, and then couldn't do anything. So he tried to get Eckert back in to pass and get them off the line.

Our own beat guy wasn't there? Nice. Who was there? The SMU intern from the SID dept.? Rich Phillips? Jimmy Christopher? a FWST guy?

The reason he is "beat" is from following SMU football too closely, I suspect.

I don't know who was there. But when Bennett asked for questions about the Baylor game, there was a pause, and then he said "Where is Calvin? He isn't here, so nobody is going to ask questions?"

I can't figure out if that is hilarious or I should be pissed off. Was Krispy Kopeland there?? Tell him to do his homework on the AD Pad.

Let the musical chairs at QB begin. Anybody else want to bet that Bennett gets to 4th stringer Justin Willis by November?

If our QB's played musical chairs.. chances are they would never hit the chair. Kinda like the way their passes never hit our WRs.

Maybe so, but even if they could the opposing defensive line would be sitting in them already. Our offensive line is as horrible as always.

With Romo starting this week....don't look for much out of Chase, Foster, etc, etc.

OK this is going to be about as predictable as snowfall in Alaska. Next! How many weeks of losses do you predict it will take before Bennett simply admits he made a horrible mistake in deviating from Chris Phillips. Boys and Girls either this WILL happen or SMU will not win more than 2 games. Mark it down right now. 0-6, 0-7, 0-8 in the 4th year of your contract with a 6-36 record has a way of changing your outlook on things.

My prediction is three. 0-3, and Phillips takes the reins against Tulane in our first C-USA game. That is, if Chris decides to pay attention during the games and takes an interest in what is going on. Keep your eye on #7 Saturday night to see how close to the coaches he stands. (I'm talking about Phillips and not the other SMU player wearing #7).

FYI, Ricky Joe Meeks did not play in Northwestern State's season opener, but he is the backup QB.

I don't think switching to Phillips does anyone any good. Maybe by midseason he will have fully recovered from injury. We all know that if he was healthy he would have challenged for the top QB spot.
I think the game plan will be simplified against TCU, Romo will go in at QB and we will run the ball and throw the occasional deep ball. Everyone can see that Eckert would be dead meat getting blitzed like crazy against them after what we saw with Oklahoma. I don't think SMU is going to give up a ton of points, our defense is too good, but I can see a ton of 3 and outs for the offense, regardless of who is QB.
The games in conference play will be competitive, regardless of what happens against TCU and A&M. I expect that Romo or Eckert will start every game this season. If Phillips does get a start, it will be because his shoulder heals and he is at full strength, not just for the heck of it. The kid is coming off surgery and was sick all fall, so he hasn't exactly had a chance to prove anything yet.

Come on. We gave up 28 to Baylor, yes BAYLOR, a fellow doormat. TCU beat OU. We will most likely give up TWO tons of points this weekend.

when thinking about the upcoming TCU game, I just can't get that 44-0 out of my head. Hope the guys are still too pi$$ed off to let that happen again.
On the QB issue, I can't imagine Bennett will continue playing these seniors if we start 0-5. Gotta believe we'll see Phillips by the ECU game if Romo?Eckert don't win one before then. As Stallion says, would be professional suicide not to prepare for next year at some point. Pull off the miracle and beat TCU...and all is suddenly right with the program.
