Put a gun to my head. I was fine with either of them as a OC before Burns got here. I would be fine with either of them if they went someplace else first and got more experience. We've seen first hand the jump from I-AA to I-A (Cavan) and I-A Assistant in a major program to head coach (Bennett). I can't imagine the jump from HS to I-A. No thanks. And didn't some Div. III school turn down Flanigan? We aren't that bad.

Todd Dodge has publically stated that he will not be a candidate for any coaching job until his son Riley a Sophmore graduates from SLC.

I'd rather see Darrell Dickey come to the hill top with Ramon Flaingan, and groom him for the HC position. If Dickey keeps winning at NTSU people are going to start noticing and he will get interest from some higher profile programs that are down. SMU better jump on it before somebody else takes notice. The best case scenario is that Dickey comes to SMU wins for a couple of years and he moves on with Flanigan taking the helm, sort of like Francione and Patterson at TCU.

I'd be ecstatic if we went after Neuhesiel.
Terry Bowden would be my dream coach but that'll never happen.
I can't believe Norm Chow actually considered taking this job.
I also remember Skip Holtz was interested in SMU. I think his old man told him not to take the gig. His father gave him good counsel.

Wow, I was just checking out Darrell Dickey's bio. I didn't know he was the OC at SMU in 1997. Was he a Cavan hire or a Rossley hold over?

forget about any "name" coach coming to SMU...it simply won't happen. This place has proven to be a graveyard for college coaching careers. Quickly...name one post death penalty SMU head coach who has gone elsewhere as a head coach? We had a chance to hire a football name in Charlie Waters, who admittedly had less coaching experience and certaily wasn't as in tune with recruiting as Bennett. As I recall. Waters last coaching gig was as D-Coordinator at Oregon.

IF Bennett fails...and I say IF because I'm still holding out hope he can be the guy who finally turns this train wreck around...I don't think the idea of a guy like Flanigan is too far fetched. Remember...there was a major financial commitment to Bennett and his staff. I forget how much more this football staff is earning than the Cavan team did in his last year...but I want to say the payroll nearly doubled? Bottom line is that IF we have to start over again, Flanigan might come at the right price and he might bring a very young, energetic staff in that just might appeal to the high school kids we're trying to recruit. Admittedly, it would be a heck of a gamble...but could it be worse than what we've seen the past 16 years?

I'm all for it. I wonder if Meyer follows the program.
How about John Jenkins.
Hey Forrest Gregg has made amends with Jenkins. He hired him as scout for the CFL team he runs. When I was growing up in Houston I loved watching those UH teams. Andre Ware to Manny Hazzard was pretty friggin exciting. I also liked watching Trevor Cobb and Bert Emanuel at Rice. Ok I'll stop now.

I think its safe to say that John Jenkins will never be the SMU head coach. What a jack-ass.

The game we need to be playing is who will be the next Athletic Director. Charlie Waters has as much experience as USC's AD prior to getting the job. We need someone the Dallas media will ooh and ahh over! Besides every 18 year old has a momma that had a crush on ole Charlie.
