Ponies in the Draft - Slaten

Postby SMU00 » Mon Apr 01, 2002 3:22 pm

ESPN's description of Joey Slaten:

"Joseph Slaten
OT | (6-6, 311, 5.4) | Southern Methodist
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1997. Lettered in '98. Started five of the last six games in '99. Started the past two years.

Positives: Good size. Has gotten better and looks a little quicker and more athletic than he did earlier.

Negatives: Still will look slow and unathletic at times. Does not sink his hips, bend his knees or play with good leverage. Has limited leg drive and lateral movement. Is learning to use size, but he does not do enough with his hands and arms and lets the defender get into his body too much.

Summary: Size could take him into a training camp, but unless he is a late-maturing athlete and the light goes on, Slaten will not be a good enough athlete or player to make it.
