Is A$M that Good?

The local Ark paper has the line for the SMU-A$M game at 28. The same paper has USC-Ark line at 31. Now Ark has played Southwest Missouri State and Vanderbilt and has a 1-1 record. One could argue that SMU's schedule to date is more competitive. Is A$M suppose to be so awesome as to justify such a huge line? I guess I haven't been paying enough attention to the polls. Is A$M ranked like #3 or something?
Obviously SMU gets no respect after beating a ranked opponent. That is OK. One hopes the Ags figure (and judging from their fan sites) SMU is a creampuff. Here is to a rude Aggie awakening Saturday.

They are a good team not a great team. A&M was embarrassed in the Cotton Bowl against Tennessee. I can't see how they have improved that much since then. Reggie McNeal has not really clicked yet and I hope it does not happen against us. The pre-season Heisman hype for Reggie was foolishness.

Well, considering Aggy lost to a team that barely beat a mediocre Maryland team, I don't think aTm is as good as advertised. Are they bad? No. Are they going to compete for the Big XII? Doubtful. Will SMU have to play their best game in recent memory to beat them? Definitely.

A&M is good enough to win about 45-6

this ain't your Daddy's Texas A&M either. They don't have the agressive Wrecking Crew style defense nor are they likely to run it down your throat all day. Biggest concern is containing McNeil which isn't easy with the best of athletes. But I will say with our LBs this year we might be better equipped than any SMU team I can remember in containing a scrambling QB.

Their RB is good, but McNeal has tremendous talent. Whether he plays a tremendous game remains to be seen -- our front seven has to play the game of their lives, and he has shown inconsistency in the past. But he was drastically better last year than he was a sophomore, when he was basically a great athlete playing QB. When he's "on," he can be unreal.

Reggie, hiding behind A$M OL (everybody 300+), will be the ultimate challenge this year for our D. It will take some big time PlayMakers to keep 'em in check.

/\ It's only a joke to teams who never have serious contenders for it.
