Bennett Interview on Free(I believe)

Postby Stallion » Tue Sep 13, 2005 8:55 pm

on SMUMUSTANGS.com. Although I am a subscriber it came on w/o signing in. Check it out. Zac Sledge will start at IR and perhaps a new deep snaper.

DMN reported that Sledge would in fact start over Foster and the new long snapper is a freshman Jackson Taylor.

And that is TRUE FRESHMAN Jackson Taylor.

Yes, I thought the snaps were high all night and I agree that Bennett needed to look for an alternative, but having a true freshman out there makes me nervous.

freshman walk-on from Houston Christian where he probably played in front of a couple hundred will now be deep snaping at Kyle Field before 75,000 Cultists as jtstang likes to say. Oh Nellie!!!!!!!!

Didn't this all start because our starting snapper left the team? Was it Grant Edson?

Having a freshman walkon in that position makes me nervous also. Long snapper is a crucial, but thankless job. I single-handedly lost two games for my high school team, when I snapped the ball over the punter's head twice in 1985. That was only with 8,000 watching. Lord help this kid.

Yeah, that is pretty crazy. But then again, after doing it at A&M, he will probably be ready to go for the conference games, which are the ones that really count. And if he messes up, you can always put BK back in.

Go read the depth chart in the game notes... Urbanus over DJ at left tackle...

But what a way to earn a scholarship. Do good at Kyle and well the rest of the season and you got a S.
Just send 'da money.

As long as he stays away from the koolaid he'll be fine. Look, the deep snapping cqannot get any worse than it's already been, so pressure's off.

Eidson did 2-3 years ago, but we had something like 4-5 punts blocked in the first 5-6 games. Zac Simmonds did the deep snapping after he left and we only had one blocked due to a break down in blocking scheme. As the old saying goes nobody knows who the DS is unless he screws up. Simmonds' replacement quit in August of this year, and I understand a scramble has been on to find a consistant DS. The freshman has been doing some snapping in the the first two games so it is not like he is completely green. But someone would have to look at the replays to see how much and whether he was in when the blocks occurred.

It will probably be the first time many of the Pony players get to play in a BIG TIME stadium against one of the top programs of all time. Too bad they will be slaughtered 63-7, I'll give the Pony's a TD on our 3rd string defense.

exactly how many national championships does one of the greatest programs of all time have? Would that be more or less than SMU?

Are we talking about the same program that has only finished the season ranked in the top 5 twice in its history?

Maybe you meant Florida A&M.
