First of all I want to say that they do a great job during the game and that they work very hard.

But they have one thing that none of us fans have... a bloody instrument that is loud. I wish i would have counted how many times during the 4th quarter people around me were saying "what is the band doing, why are they not playing?", but i was too busy yelling till i lost my voice and jumping up and down in pure excitement.

As a fan especially when we are WINNING, the band cannot play TOO MUCH... Especially since we only have around 25,000 fans the band can make the crowd seem like 45000.

Again I am not saying the band is doing a bad job, I just wish they would play more often.. especially when its 3 down... A simple rule if its 3rd down please starting playing as loud as possible..

To the drumline... Start beating the drums and get the S-M-U S-M-U chant going atleast 50 times a game...

I hear rocky top is probably played 100 times at a tennessee game and this weekend you will hear A&M's band playing non stop...

the alumni band is great I love how they go throughout the stadium and play.
Again so I don't sound like a jerk they do a great job I just wish they would do MORE of a great job

Senior year at SMU ( 1981 ) I remember the ut fans complaining that the Mustang Band continued to play ( Peruna ) while the ut offense was trying to call plays in the huddle and at the line. I was told by one that this was poor 'sportsmanship'...as I quit laughing, I remember thinking that this guy would be the type that would rewrite the history of the holocaust...some people do not want to face the reality of the world not turning their special direction.

Play Band, Play,,,long, LOUD and continuously...hopefully after multiple touchdowns...

Unfortunately it is no longer 1981 and they can only play at certain times as per league rules. Although I'm sure they appriciate the suggestion.

Unfortunately, the NCAA enacted the "Anti-Mustang Band" rule. As stated directly from the NCAA rule book:

"Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any
noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals (Rule 1-1-6).
PENALTY—Dead-ball foul. 15 yards [S7, S27] from the succeeding spot.
Flagrant offenders, if players or substitutes, shall be disqualified
[S47]."

So the band can not play as long or as much as they would like. Before this rule, the band had a record for playing Peruna in a football game of 702 times. Prior to that, the record was 690 at the SMU - Texas SWC basketball NCAA tournament representative playoff in 1972.

I noticed at the Baylor game that Peruna was allowed to run the field after scores. This was also previously outlawed by the NCAA. Maybe we are starting to get back to the college football atmosphere and get rid of these stupid stupid rules.

Let the cheerleaders cheer.
Let the bands play.
Let the bells ring.
Let the cannons fire. (Except the one from Austin)

Let college football be college football

Its not the band playing- its the volume. That rule has been around for years and the band used to go into sax and snare mode while the team was at the line and go into full blast when the play started. If they go to back to that level of noise, they won't get flagged and if they did, I would love Bennett to go out and get 15 more ripping the ref a new one.

Saw them do that againist TCU on our first two scores. Unsure if they did it on the last touchdown. I about broke down when we scored there so really wasnt paying attention.

About the "S-M-U" chant in drumline. We honestly play that as much as we can. The issue is that the cheerleaders have more than one chant, so we have to follow what they're chanting.

I wish we could get back up into the 200 or 300s for Peruna, but with all the rules and regulations, it's hard. We do hit 100 with Perunas most of the time.
