Or were they always planning to play that FR RB this year?

He's been the 3rd string tailback all summer and with Hobbs out, he had to play. Glad he did...

better to win a game while burning a redshirt than to lose a game by forgetting to play a freshman. UT has already played 10 out of 16 recruits.

So who is being touche'd?
Martin's playing or not did not effect a redshirt.
When you recruit the top kids, as in the UT case, and they are ready out of high school and some may turn pro before they are seniors that is a different situation than TCU's RB.
While TCU needed that kid to play to win due to injuries, no doubt, he did look rather thin. I wonder how long he will last before being injured? Kind of like ShanD.

Can anyone give the rules on redshirting? I thought I read somewhere that a person can play in the first two games of a season and still be redshirted. Is this right?

I think that rule is for medical redshirts.

we've already burned a redshirt for a kid that has gotten in for what 4 plays. And Givens plays at a position where we desperately need an upgrade. The same thing has happened throughout Bennett's tenure. At least TCU got its moneys worth. He reportedly ran the fastest 100 Meters in the country last year with no wind information. They really got a goldmine in this kid-and I think they know it. It will be very interesting to see if our receivers can get separation on Texas A&Ms DBs.

Givens will play more as the season goes on, especially if he can catch that wide-open pass. He already picked us up a big penalty against Baylor. Patience, grasshopper. Pellerin and Givens will be starting on the outside by the end of the season, with Chase starting in the slot.

I'm just glad that frosh did not hit the field against us!!
He will no doubt fail out by 2007 so we are o.k.
