Ponies...The Frogs validated your win.

Postby Raddman » Fri Sep 16, 2005 10:15 am

Now, it's your turn.

I know the reality of a miracle at Kyle Field is practically impossible, but at the very least, show up and represent like you did at GJF last week. Time will tell that you have a decent, respectable football team that beat a decent, respectable football team in TCU.

You may be surprised by this, but Bennett joked this summer that the A&M game represents a lot of money to SMU and a night with the Mrs.-to-be for him. On a serious note, y'all wouldn't be playing this game if he didn't think you could compete - and all of us at TCU would like to think you can!

Now, as for you Pony fans, get over yourselves. You've had your week to gloat, celebrate, mock and bash us Frogs, our team, our fans, and you even went so far as to take shots at our stadium. Congratulations on your win, and be thankful that we brought 10-12K to GJF, otherwise you would have had another jam packed stadium of 15K. Just wait until Rice, East Carolina and the other CUSA retreads come rolling in to town. The scary part is it might be an improvement from the WAC.

The reality is that many of us Frogs think highly of Bennett and quietly root for his success. We just hope we're not his springboard. We'd like nothing more than for the SMU-TCU rivalry to actually mean something substantial, so I guess thanks might be in order for finally stepping up to the plate.

Go Ponies! Kick Fran's ARSE!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Radd.

Is the general feeling among the froggie faithful that Fran abandoned you? Is there more resentment over him leaving, or more appreciation for his help developing the TCU program? I'm nowhere near a Fran fan, but he did well during his time at TCU.

There is not a feeling of abandonment, but rather a feeling of disloyalty on Fran's part. If you could go back and read his comments during the two weeks when Bama was courting him, he managed to talk out of both sides of his mouth several times. Couple that with his wearing a crimson tie to the Heisman ceremony with LT and showing up on the sidelines at the Mobile Bowl --- he pretty much exhausted any good feelings that the Horned Frog faithful had for him.

Then, he went to Bama and did the exact same thing. Guys like Brodie Croyle, who he begged to keep his commit, got completley screwed. The scary part is that TCU fans knew that was going to happen too because Fran's staff couldn't keep their mouths shut.

The first semi-reliable source to report Fran leaving Bama for TAMU was killerfrogs.com.

Thanks for the nice words-really I mean it.

I think alot of the resentment TCU brought on themselves. The whole state thinks the bolt for MWC was silly at best. Even TCU homer Newy Scruggs thinks so. You beat your chest about being too good for CUSA and then go 5-6.
You were too good for the GMAC bowl and them get run at your own stadium in the Inaugarul TCU bowl.
You spout that you are too good to be in a conference with the Ponies and then get your arse handed to you.
You guys need some PR help. Have fun in Provo.

I think I counted 72 Utah fans in the stands.

I think that qb is gonna be a good one, but I sure wasnt very impressed last night, but I only really watched the second half. TCUs defense was swarming.

If Utah can play an athletic, inexperienced qb, why cant we play one that does have a little experience? I still want to see Phillips at least get some time this season.

Thanks for silently rooting for the Ponies.

However, how many fans are going to travel to TCU for games. Don't give me that - you guys are going to struggle with attendance. Your closest school is New Mexico...come on dude. Gimme a break. Your stadium is old...that is a fact.

We didn't think we were too good, but we left the WAC to Conference USA because their was a better level of competition with Louisville, Cincinatti, Memphis, Southern Miss, & East Carolina playing great football at the time with David Garrard.

Then three of the stronger football teams at the time Louisville (perenial powerhouse over past 3 years), Cincinatti, and USF leave to go to the Big East. After which MWC saw an opportunity to strengthen it's conference for a challange for the BCS bid. Invited us to join. Utah finished ranked #4 in the country with a Fiesta Bowl victory. New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado St., BYU, & Airforce have always put together strong programs.
Under the circumstances SMU would have made the same decision as we did. You could argue the same for why did SMU abandon the WAC?

Well, best of luck with A&M. Find a way to contain McNeal. We need you to win more games now, but I still don't think Bennett is the answer nor will he turn the corner for you. Now that you have invested in a stadium you need to spend some of that big SMU $$$$ on highly regarded coach.

uh, say what you want about Bennett, but I'll take him over Patterson. When we had Cavan and you had Fran, it was no contest. But now, even though I haven't liked everything Bennett has done, he is a legit threat to taking recruits away from Patterson.

The reason we left the WAC is simple...We would've had over half of our games in Texas.

We could get our fans to go to away games, such is the case this week. I never USF was a power in the CUSA not to mention Cincy.

But it's simple why we would leave the WAC. Houston, Rice, UTEP, Tulsa, Tulane. It made sense.

I just find it funny that if the MWC claims that Utah is their best team, then they got beat by a 5-6 Frogs team from last season in the CUSA, what does that mean for the MWC now.

For your information USF did have a good program the last two years. Oh, and by the way we might of had a 5-6 record last year but we have been to 6 bowl games over the past 7 years.........

Anyway, yes we might have wrecked a chance for a BCS buster this year but at least the MWC is the first to do it. And if we have enough teams go to bowl games it will not matter. Furthermore, to tell me if MWC would have offered you invite to join their conference you would have declined is laughable..... You would have been jumping at the opportunity. Plus if I was an athletic program I would rather come and play in San Diego, Salt Lake, New Mexico, Colorado, Las Vegas, etc. than some of the venues SMU will be travelling too. Let alone the great football playing conditions in these venues. Sunny almost all year round with nice temperatures and low humidity. Yeah, reallllyyyyy sucks...........................
