Oh well...Well, at least A&M people will show up to work this week after a win so we will have the blue-collar labor force back out in the field. My lawn could really use some careful mowing from those folks with that impresive Agricultural degree, I'm sure many others feel the same. I thought SMU looked pretty decent up until 2:00 to go in the half.
Romo looked sharp until that pick, but whoever taught the defense how to tackle needs to go look up the definition of "tackle" in the dictionary before they're allowed to coach these players one more time. Special Teams need some serious work. Team looked better physically, but just poorly coached. Hangover game? Or is this coaching? Tulane will be the game that defines the season. I know we hoped for a better showing, but A&M is a good team, they are p!ssed that they lost to Clemson, and their coach likes to run up the score. One word of advice: Don't take after Aggie fans and let your personal morale and well-being be decided by the performance of the football team. Let them be sky high, they'll probably work better for you for this week anyways.
I just look at it this way. We all expected to lose this game. Not much else we could do.
The season starts for us againist Tulane. We're 1-2 on the year. We are definately improved over last season and we need to show it next week vs the Green Wave.
The season actually started 3 weeks ago, not to pee in your cheerios or anything. But seriously, SMU's gotta show up to every game. I don't care if we lose to A&M, but this debacle is just laughable. Granted, Fran is an [deleted] and is trying to run up the score -- but still, our D isn't doing much in the way of stopping it from happening.
If we can beat Tulane, we can start to forget about this game. Hopefully this doesn't do to our team what Tech did to TCU's last year. Bennett didn't impress me with his coaching. The players looked better at the beginning, but the tackling is ridiculous and the special teams are even worse.
The season starts for us on conference play I should've said againist Tulane.
If we can have a well showing againist Tulane next week and the rest of the season, we can well just keep building off it. Thats the biggest thing we need to do.
I just get confused. I think Cavan deserved to get canned -- but he was going 4-7, 5-6, etc. and we were looking for someone to take us to the next level. Bennett has taken us to a different level, but it just hasn't been in the right direction. He's a great person, and seems excited about his job -- but I just haven't seen anything impressive about his coaching abilities. Though the talent level seems better...
I'm not really mad per se ... b/c I've adhered to jtstang's approach to going to SMU football: Expect the worst, and be surprised if something else happens. But I'm just confused by our admin's decision in re: to head coaches. 4-7 and 5-6 don't cut it, but 0-12 followed by 3-8 deserve a contract extension...
next year's schedule is a more appropriate non-conference schedule for us. Let's face it...we have no business being on the same field as upper level Big XII teams...we've shown that over the past 16 years.
Maybe we should have joined the Sun Belt Oh well, at least I've got the South Carolina and Clemson games to watch now. Real football.
Hey, Surprising note, Ohio State is down to San Diego State 6-0 in the 1st quarter. They've pretty much controlled the game same the beginning.

I really don't want to hear that. I'd rather hear there's a huge discrepancy between BCS and non-BCS teams right now so there is some kind of excuse for our performance today, and I can think we might have a shot at winning some conference games. haha
Would you guys get a grip? All things considered, the boys did a pretty good job. The Ags can make anyone look bad in Aggieland, and have been outrecruiting us for years. If the boys can get this game behind them, we'll be fine in CUSA play.

Man I was there-this had nothing to do with coaching. We had guys in the place to catch passes which were dropped all day. Romo did fine and put the ball where it should be. The coaches put us in position to move the ball in the air. The DBs were in position but did a horrendous job tackling. The Offensive and defensive line were thoroughly manhandled. It wouldn't have mattered what running play was called, Martin had NO CHANCE. Reggie McNeil played a GREAT game. Not to mention that the 95 degree weather with humidity gave them the advantage of using superior depth at every position. They are simply better than us at every single position on the field. The better question is to ask how and why there was such a talent discrepancy.
Oh, Stallion, I think we know the answer to the talent descrepencies between the programs. It will be *ahem* some time before that gap closes. But if we had an experienced WR and something that vaguely looked like special teams out there, it would haven't have been so bad. It's painful to watch, but I think that we showed glimpses of what could be with a little more talent- and while it's hard to find a silver lining in a blowout like this (especially without any special teams play) there were plenty of positive things going on.

I can't say I'm happy about a loss, but seeing the guys, I am not that disappointed- nothing like the furor over losing to Baylor. There is some good stuff happening. We just need to hgo out and beat some teams closer to our talent level. Tulane comes immediately to mind...

regardless of what anyone says, the talent gap is something that was guaranteed with the break up of the SWC. No matter what model SMU plays under today, we can't close that gap. Top players want to play for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP...not the CUSA Championship. And, my fellow Mustang fans, this has all happened because there aren't enough of us.
