Here's the official school-released report on the scrimmage.

SMU Holds Spring Game
Blue Blanks White, 26-0

Dallas, Texas -- Keylon Kincade ran for two touchdowns and Tate Wallis threw for 188 yards to lead the Blue, made up primarily of first-teamers, to a 26-0 victory over the White in SMU's spring game on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The workout closed spring practice for the Mustangs.

The game was just 12 plays old when lightning in the area forced a 20-minute delay. Much of the contest was played with rain falling.

"It was good to get the game in," said SMU head coach Phil Bennett. "We were very basic today. We didn't blitz at all on defense and we didn't show much of our offense.

"I wanted to see good execution on both sides of the ball and we did that. The defense was physical and we did some nice things on the offensive side of the ball."

The White took the opening kickoff and marched 40 yards in seven plays but Jonas Rutledge picked off a Richard Bartel pass and raced 75 yards for a touchdown. Chris McMurtray's point after attempt was wide right leaving the Blue with a 6-0 lead. Rutledge, who scored three touchdowns last season, also returned an interception for a score in last Saturday's scrimmage.

The Blue took a 13-0 lead later in the first period when ShanDerrick Charles scored on a 29-yard run. Kincade's first TD, from a yard out, gave the Blue a 20-0 halftime advantage.

Kincade's second score, also from one yard, capped the scoring in the final period.

Wallis looked sharp running the first team offense, completing 15-of-27 passes for 188 yards. Bartel was 12-of-24 for 125 yards. Kelan Luker missed the game with a sprained neck.

"Tate made some very good decisions today," said Bennett. "Richard showed signs of brilliance then would make a mistake. He has a lot of talent but just needs to execute better. He started slow but once he got going, he made some great throws.

"If we played tomorrow, Tate would be the starting quarterback."
Charles led all rushers with 55 yards on 11 carries while Kincade ran 14 times for 46 yards. Trey Griffin had five catches for 62 yards while Chris Cunningham had five for 54 yards.

Defensively, Lute Croy had three tackles for loss and Khalid Beard had two and a sack.

In addition to Luker, John Hampton, Jarrian James and Derron Brown were banged up and did not play.

"We accomplished a lot this spring and we are going to get better," Bennett said. "We have got to work hard over the summer. A lot of that falls on the players' shoulders. The quarterbacks and receivers need to get out and work together. Guys have to watch a lot of film and work hard in the weight room. The focus is now on Navy."
