Alright...so the day began at 4am, quick flight, crappy game, and flight back home. Aside from the usual fill in the blank frustration with my guys (more on that in a second), this is the most glaring thing I noticed today:
I went to this o.o.t. game to 'experience' Kyle Field. Aggieland. 2nd toughest stadium to play at for an away team in America. Huh? BR Stang will agree with me, anyone calling KF an intimidating experience has never set foot into Tiger Stadium on a Sat. night. Those that doubt, tell me on some weekend when we're not using our seats in section N37 at Death Valley. My treat. The Aggie band? Yawn. I think our Mustang Band got more out of the crowd when they were marching. And enough of the JROTC thing...had my fill in H.S. 17 years ago.
I only have two points to make about the game. 1) For once, it wasn't a preparation thing so much as an execution thing. Our guys were there with passes thrown to hit them in the hands...didn't catch them. Were there to make a tackle...didn't do it. Held aTm to one offensive TD most of the first half. Apparently didn't care about having done so. 2) Perhaps the saddest and most important thing...it kills me when I see the loyal 60y.o. plus fans at home & away games who are diehard, believe, and even amidst the shellacking have a smile and say, "don't give up." As frustrating as our lil' Mustangs are, we should all be disappointed in ourselves if we're not as loyal when the time comes.

Well said RGV. Especially about the junior ROTC thing.
Their entire student body reminds me of a bad SMU Lambda Chi mixer, "Bring on the Mountain Dew, boys, Tonight we Party!!"

you're probably right about Baton Rouge on a Saturday Nite but to be fair it was so hot out there today that about 15,000 were sitting in the shade on the concourse, it was a breakfast-not cocktail starting time and the game was never really in doubt.

RGV--you're a good man for travelling to Votech Station...I thought about it, but had other commitments for the weekend. Glad I didn't now.
I will agree with you, Tiger Stadium is probably the most intense and tough place for a visitor to play, at least that I've been to, although I've heard you can't hear yourself think at the Kyle Field, either.
I haven't given up on the Mustangs for the season; in fact, I'm looking forward to the Tulane game. But I really thought we had moved up a notch after the TCU game...now, I'm just not sure. We'll see how it plays out over the next few weeks.
I truly hope that the 2nd half shutdown was just a conscious decision by the team (right or wrong) to avoid any injuries or season-ending catastrophes and not a COMPLETE lack of talent or energy depletion. But I do know that, now, we're back to square one on terms of getting respect in the eyes of the college football world.
Now, let's move forward and kick @ss in C-USA!
Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!

I agree. I'm over it. Let's just pretend it was a bad dream. The real SMU team (minus the turnovers) was the one we saw last week and in today's first half.
Let's beat Tulane and then on to Marshall where I will see the game in person. I'm driving up from G'Boro.

I could have told you before the game that Kyle Field was not going to be loud! It never is for these kinds of games. If it had been a good game it would have been very loud. It was a yawner however.
Best of luck the rest of the way. I pull for the Mustangs because I like Phil Bennett and I would like to see your program become good again!

I won't belabor the point...this is a Pony Fans message board, not Tigerfans, but...two years ago at LSU's home opener vs. Western friggin Illinois it was plenty loud.
Most of the aggie fans we encountered were quite helpful and hospitable. The only two bad apples encountered, in fact, were scouts marching into the stadium who told my wife, "go home," and "go tf home," respectively. 2 out of 75k isn't bad.
