We are now 1-3 with road games against 2 respectable teams, Marshall and UAB.

PB is 1-18 on the road, so expect us to be 1-5 heading back to Ford, where maybe 6,000 will see us play ECU.

PB is in the midst of his worst recruiting class ever at SMU, and that is saying a lot given last years’ effort.

I have been consistent from the beginning…3 wins or less and PB should go.

This loss really hurts...not only the fact that it's another loss and we fall to 1-3, but this one makes it highly unlikely this team will improve on last year's 3-8. For Bennett to succeed, it's critical to show progress in the W/L record year over year so he can sway some recruits. What really hurts is that this game wasn't even competitive...against a middle of the pack conference opponent on our home field. OUCH

It's hard to even think about getting excited for another game this season, even if Bennett managed to win one of the next two on the road. TCU could have been good for him, but he (and let's not forget "the team") BLEW IT!

I think anything less than 5 wins ought to send Bennett packing. He didn't do anything to rehabilitate the team from the aTm loss (which he ASKED for!). However, my biggest fear is that even if he manages to squeeze in one or two more wins, "good ol' SMU" will honor its contract and keep him around.

Besides, who else do you think we realistically can get to coach this bunch of buffoons and recruit better-than-buffoon athletes?

I'm afraid the nails been in the coffin for about 6-7 years, fella.....this thing is beyond repair, need to make some hard decisions now...

The picture is becoming a little clearer. Our players look bigger, faster and stronger but we can't tackle, can't hold on to the ball and our play calling is questionable at best. I have been a Bennett supporter but am now wavering considerably in my support of him and his coaching staff. The mistakes we are making are not due to our athleticism or talent but are due to coaching (or lack thereof). I don't question Bennett's passion for SMU and his desire to win but those attributes will only take you so far. Bennett has proven that he is a tremendous Def Coord and seems to have recruited pretty good players considering the SMU football program over the past 20 years has been pitiful, at best, and gives him few positives to sell to recruits; however, I am seriously starting to question whether Bennett can be a head coach. I'm not sure where this leaves us as we now have the reputation of being a revolving door for a head coach and a sure speed bump in any coach's career path who stops here.

Not exactly...he recruited well his first 2 years... but many of his star players have since left SMU...last years' class was a train wreck...this years' will probably be worse...

Conclusion: long-term prospects under PB are dim

But at least Bennett was given a contract extension for 2 more years after the current one ends next year :!:
