Can Jesse Henderson Catch?

Postby Stallion » Sun Sep 25, 2005 3:21 pm

I have never understood why we have 4th string TBs with the athletic ability of Jesse Henderson on the bench with the lack of big play potential at Inside Receiver. Can we get some people on the field who can make big plays and are deep play threats? Probably the biggest mismatch on the field was SMU's receivers v Tulane's receivers.

You would think that we could come up with a few plays to get him into space. Also, don't see why Givens is not allowed at least 2 opportunities a game to drop a wide open bomb. He is going to catch one sooner or later and it represents an actual scoring threat that must be covered. Otherwise we throw it to guys who can't out run a LB if they life depended on it.

what is worse dropping 2 TD opportunities or being shutout in 70 offensive play opportunities. I'll take the young athletic poison everytime especially when this team won't be making any vacation plans for the December bowl season.

Reggie Bush would still be sitting on the sidelines if he played for the Ponies!

I don't know if Henderson can catch a pass, but he can catch a kickoff. As fast as he is, I like the idea of getting him out there and seeing if we can figure out ways to get the ball in his hands. For instance (and this isn't a shot at Pellerin): if Henderson takes that end-around that Pellerin took 34 yards on the first play, he's in the end zone.

I hear you, but the problem is not Pellerin's speed on THAT play.

It was the play calling after that run that got us to 31-10.

The issue is not whether he can catch the ball. He obviously can do that. Can he run with the ball without fumbling it, that's the question. How many fumbles does he have? 3? 4?
