Bring in Rick Neuheisel

Why not? This program is in shambles right now, and Bennett is clearly not the answer. There is virtually no enthusiasm on campus for this program right now. I know, I'm a student here. People go out on the Blvd., get free food and beer, and then head back and watch whatever game is on ESPN rather than SMU football. Bringing in a big name like Neuheisel would renew interest, and the guy is a proven winner, regardless of what you think of him personally. I'm sure he could recruit well in Texas, and given the fact that he's the Ravens QB coach right now, I'm sure he'd be interested in the job. So why not? For $38,000 a year, we deserve better football than this.

re:Rick Neuheisel

You think Neuheisel would really come?

I would think he is "laying low" for awhile until some bigger program comes calling.

Of course the pin-heads at SMU would probably moan "oh we cant hire him".

I say what do we have to lose?

How could our reputation get any worse?

Neuheisel might only stay a few years if he turned SMU around but at least we would get the benefit of a turn-around.

Don't hold your breath.

The people and thought process holding this program back are not going to allow SMU to make such a bold move.

This guy is perceived as damaged goods. SMU needs to get some marbles and take a chance like UTEP did. No one else wanted Mike Price-why do you think he went to that hole El Paso. The whole country would be watching to see how SMU and Neuheisel does.

Hey Copeland don't hire Neuheisel. Scratch him off your list. We need a squeaky clean guy here who can lose with dignity.

Look we don't need a guy who has the NCAA two steps behind every program he's worked for. There are lots of great coaches out there, some young hungry ones who can do a good job here so that they can then get attention and go to a "big job". We are not going to get anyone here who is worth a lick without making some systemic changes. As a student, you need to rally your fellow students in say the Panhellenic Council, the InterFraternity Council, the Student Senate to call for some of these changes. The Board of Trustees needs cover to face down the Faculty Senate. If the students don't care, the Trustees won't care either.

Rick has a great reputation at destroying programs. When he left Colorado, the players he recuited and the lack of disicpline lead to them needing to rebuild. Same thing at Washington.

Take a look at the face of "Death Penalty 2: The Bitter End of SMU Football".

Please, no. No. And again....NO!

This is hilarious. We've hit rock bottom. We're headed for another 9 or 10 loss season. We're going to have 2 terrible recruiting classes in a row. What the he!! do we have to lose by taking a chance on any coach? Honestly, would another death penalty be much worse than where we are right now? I don't know that I would miss the 66-8 losses to mediocre teams, even if we do get a fluke win against a good team once every 10 years. Let's stay on the 2010 train bound for Division II... now THAT will be exciting.

Don't you really mean Div. 1-AA? We're not at Div. II level...yet!

We are not good enough to be Div 1-AA.

 WOW! Thanks for complimenting my lil' ol' alma mater, Sam Houston State!

However, I disagree with you jtstang/Stallion. I think SMU is good enough, if not BETTER, than Div. 1-AA, Div. II, Div. III or even NAIA. But I guess we'll find out for sure next season when Sam Houston State and TSU3 (formerly Southwest Texas State) come to Ford Stadium.

You're really not doing Stallion any justice lumping him in with the likes of me.

For those of you that want the old uniforms back.. it would happen under Newheisel. See U. of Washington as an example.. he wanted the team to recognize the traditions and history.
