Throw the damn ball to....# '89' in your press guide, Ryan Kennedy.
Let's see if somebody can tackle the beast.
Could we try to get it to him or someone (Chase comes to mind) over the middle? I long for the Mick Rossley days when teams simply had to account for him in the middle. It seems every route we run and throw to is out in the flat with the guy completely out of position to do anything with it - assuming he catches it. Our QB's have to throw 30-40 yard balls to get the thing to someone 3-4 yds beyond the line of scrimmage. As often as not, it is under thrown, not caught or the guy nailed for a 1 yd gain or loss. AND, it is boring!
Opposing defensive secondaries would seem to only need to cover the outer lanes against us. And don't tell me teams are taking that away from us. Why would they? We haven't been a threat to thrown anything crossing for the tenures of the last two coaches - not since Rossley. Long live Thomas Sowell!
I still have visions of that poor little DB from LaTech getting steamrolled by Kennedy last year. There's not a DB in the country who wouldn't suffer the same fate when trying to tackle big #89. Get him the ball!
While we are throwing to the tight end why dont we throw to V. Chase some too, hes another big body and supposedly pretty talented, hard to tell from the touches he gets.
Wasn't he primarily a blocker (albeit a damn good one) in high school? I have heard he's worked extremely [deleted] his hands. Certainly worth a shot.
Let's throw Marshall for a loop and use the formation Boise State threw at us a couple of years ago -- three tight ends (Kennedy, Chase and McKinney) all split out wide. Add Bobby Chase for a fourth big, strong target. I'm guessing we'd see some CBs getting flattened.
Kennedy is a stud. Why he's not getting the ball thrown his direction more often is a mystery to me, too. The few times this season he has received the ball it hasn't been for much yardage...but that's not his fault. It's the routes.
And the fact that all four teams we've played have jammed him at the line of scrimmage with a LB, had the LB chase him in coverage AND brought a safety in for help. They've all seen films from last year, and they know Kennedy is our most dangerous receiving threat. Every team we face all year will do this.
Not really, the problem is our entire offense is comprised of sub-par players that nobody else really wanted. And our defense, while they have shown flashes, is not much better.
Columbus Givens. Are the ESPN stats correct in that Givens has not caught a pass this year? I know he has dropped two TD's for big yardage, but NO CATCHES? The only stat is one rushing attempt for -6 yards.
We need to throw him the ball a couple more times (and he needs to catch it) before we give up on him. Can we call King's ex on taking away his redshirt year?
