A LOT OF COACHING NAMES HAVE BEEN THROWN IN THE HAT
FOR A POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT AT SMU, BUT THEIR IS ONE NAME
THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN YET AND THAT IS EX AGGIE COACH
RC SLOCCUM.HE IS A GOOD FOOTBALL COACH AND IS A RESPECTED
BY EVERYONE.MY FIRST PICK WAS GENE STALLINGS AND WHILE HE
HE MAY BE TO OLD TO BE CONSIDERD FOR THE NEXT COACH STILL
COULD TEACH MORE FOOTBALL THAN MOST COACHES HALF HIS AGE.
FINALLY,MY 3RD AND MAYBE THE MOST INTERESTING CHOICE WOULD
BE TODD DODGE.I FEEL LIKE HE IS A WINNER AND WOULD BE A GREAT
RECRUITER.HECK IF HE JUST BROUGHT MOST OF SOUTH LAKE CARROLL
TEAM WITH HIM THAT WOULD BE A PLUS. :D

R.C Slocum is one of the winniest coaches in Texas Football History-but I just don't think he is a good fit for SMU. You know though I'm pretty sure we could do worse. There are a lot of mid level schools that have done pretty good for themselves by hiring the experienced solid football coaches that they wouldn't get otherwise. I',m pretty sure that he would hire the best coaching staff availiable and you wouldn't have to worry about fundamentals. Todd Dodge for the hundreth time ain't availiable for 3 years. If he were he would be considered.

He's the winningest coach in ATM football history. His replacement is 13-14 and 2-10 on the road.

Don't believe everything Aggies tell you.

We need a new coach if nothing else than to give old Billy some hope. That is all I live for these days. I do not expect winning seasons. I also belieive we need a new AD. Copeland's record is among the worst in Diviision 1. O.K. maybe not Buffalo, but look at the rescourses SMU has. If SMU would listen to SMU then we my be ablee to win more games than lose...I hate Bennett and Copelnd and Turner and the Board F. you. Jerks. Hell yeah

Didn't Slocum used to date Ruth Bader Ginsberg?

Slocum would be a great hire here. TAMU is beginning to realize just how good they had it under Slocum. He was their most succesful coach ever. That includes the likes of Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, and Jackie Sherrill. Not too shabby to be at the top of that list. The man can recruit. He is not known for offensive greatness, but if he refuses to run the offensive dujour like the Spread that every one else in the world is running I would be greatful. Give me a fullback and 2 TE's over 3 WR's that can't catch and can't run faster than a 4.6 any day.

I have met Slocum many years ago and he was old then. He is a crotchity old man and may be able to recruit, but I would believe that my mother could recruit at A&M. They have tradition and a quality that you either love or hate. That means half of the recruits in the State are going to be interested. IF we hire a new coach, we need someone with some youth and ambition that can build a successful program. But none of this can ever happen without having equal ground with our competition in order to build this program. Dallas has a lot to sell, SMU has a lot to sell, but our sales base is too limited to be able and build the program that we need. We will never attract a coach from a BCS school unless he has no near future possibility of BCS coaching again. I do not know much about him, but the coach at Arkansas State has taken their program from an ofer or 1fer and turned it slightly toward the corner. I am not promotiong him but they scored 66 points last week and even against the local nunnery that is progress for them. Again IF we were to hire another coach I would like a young up and comer from Division I mid major that could see the benefits of Dallas and SMU and be allowed to recruit on an even basis. I know that is asking a lot.

we don't need an old aggie who refused to play SMU when he was coaching at A$M because he didn't want to take a chance that any of the former SWC cast-offs might jump up and bite the Aggie$.

Let's see how the season plays out before giving up hope that Bennett can be the guy to turn this thing around. AND...if a change is made at the top (Copeland), I agree we need a MARKETING guy in the AD job.
