UNIVERSITY PARK – Quarterback Jerad Romo is scheduled to start, but SMU hasn't determined who will be No. 2 on the depth chart Saturday at UAB.

Chris Phillips, who started three games last season before a rotator cuff injury ended his year, is tentatively No. 2. But coach Phil Bennett said freshman Justin Willis (Denton Ryan) would practice with the first and second teams this week.

Bennett said he wanted to redshirt Willis and fellow quarterback Eric Johnson (Plano West), but a season-ending injury to Tony Eckert might change those plans. For most of the season, SMU has traveled with three quarterbacks. Bennett said he's not sure if three quarterbacks will travel to UAB.

Briefly ...

UNIVERSITY PARK – Phil Bennett said he's looking into whether senior quarterback Tony Eckert (broken collarbone) can be granted another year of eligibility. ... Chris Foster has earned more time at wide receiver and might take Zack Sledge's starting spot. ... Bennett said he was pleased with receiver Bobby Chase's play in the Marshall game. Chase had two catches for 96 yards but had a drop.

Seriously. It's over for Phillips. I just can't tell you how dissillusioned I am right now. Disheartened. Dejected. Deflated. Debased. Depressed.

Chris, please transfer. For your own sake. Us true Mustang fans can't take it any longer. You deserve better.

That being said - PLEASE STAY. Please?

Aw, this sucks. Sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks.... I need a DOCTOR!!! Stat!

Chris Phillips for Heisman... or at least a start? Please? Phil?

Man, you do need a doctor. Schizophrenia is a terrible thing.

Hang on Thad. Let's see who is coaching next year. May be someone else.

Im sure it'll be Bennett. No need to even question that one.

With no comment about whether we should or should not, IF there is a coaching change I trust all of you calling for it are prepared for the "it will take 5 years to build" speech. Sometimes the coach is only as good as those above and below him. Other changes than a new coach could help this team move in the right direction sooner than starting all over.

I guess that is a comment as to whether or not. I favor keeing Bennett but making some changes in other areas above and below. We need an offensive coordinator that can be flexible with his talent rather than one dimensonal method. That and relief of recruiting restrictions could make a difference. It has gone too long without these things happening, but I do not relish the thought of another rebuilding process under an unproven D-1 coach, and I do not see a quality D-1. coach coming here.
