Spread vs Run-N-Shoot

Postby SMUstang » Fri Oct 07, 2005 9:23 pm

Could someone please tell me what is the difference between the Spread formation and the Run-N-Shoot offense. I have never been able to detect a difference.

Well one difference,at least in my observation, is that the Spread has a TE in its formations where as the Run and Shoot does not.

TCU under the last years of Wacker ran the TRIPLE SHOOT, which substituted a TE for one of the WRs for more RED ZONE effectiveness...check the record books, TCU has some of the all-time total offense and scoring records (I mean, they are up there).

Having said that, the RUN AND SHOOT is RUN first, SHOOT second. HOUSTON was true to this under the Witherspoon RB era...

When it became a WR offense, it faltered.

They are both horrible offenses - it is no coincidence that we had some success when we get under center and act like we are a college team. We have the talent to run the ball with a running start (I formation) instead of this inside handoff b.s which fools nobody anymore (expect Patterson).

We have the best TE in the conference and can't get him the ball. Burns needs to take note of the success at UAB and adopt a real offense.

don't you sometimes wish the NCAA would ban some this micky mouse stuff especially with regard to the spread. Like let's outlaw coaches being able to signal plays in from the sidelines. I hate that. It ruins the natural flow of the game. Its boring to watch for 20 seconds with everyone looking at the sidelines for the play. Why not let them substitute or signal to the huddle but geez I hate things about the game these days. Quite frankly I thought it was a better game without 4 WRs catching 3 yard passes. Let's outlaw 4 WRs-3 plus a TE makes for a much better game. And geez the delay draw is the most boring play in the book next to the delay shuffle pass. I'd like to see a little bit more power brought back to the game. Hey I'm all for a good passing game but there is nothing more satisfying than physically dominating an opponent.

Someone must have directed him to this thread, because Kennedy had at least three passes his direction which he caught...loved him dragging the defenders down the field with him. Speaking thereof, Bobby Chase dragged a couple of defenders for about three or four yards last night too! Strength and conditioning starting to show. 8)
