Word is out that SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium will be the site of the 2002 Tom Landry Classic, a four-team event with four of the area's top high school teams.

The Landry Classic reportedly will be played at Ford Stadium Sept. 14, the same day SMU is playing at TCU.

The scheduled games include Highland Park against Stephenville, and Garland will play DeSoto.

The Coca Cola Landry Classic will be a great way to get players on campus, playing in Ford Stadium and seeing all that SMU has to offer. (And, it also means one weekend on which players won't be able to visit TCU, since the games will be played on a Saturday.)

Each team has at least one top-flight player being recruited by the Mustangs. Among those players who will suit up in the great locker rooms and playing on the beautiful field at Ford will be:

• DeSoto defensive tackle Cedric Cofer (6-3, 280, 5.0)
• Stephenville quarterback Kevin Kolb (6-2, 210, 4.7)
• Stephenville defensive lineman John Harrell (6-2, 270, 4.9)
• Highland Park running back Colby Hollingsworth (5-10 1/2, 200, 4.47)
• Highland Park athlete Bill Foran (6-2, 215, 4.6)
• Garland wide receiver Steve Richardson (6-2, 180, 4.4)
• Garland linebacker TaTa Thompson (6-3, 225, 4.6)

That's great to have the games on campus. Hope we roll out the red carpet for those kids and they realize what a great place SMU is.
