Wow, what a great game. That was fantastic. I figured after I wrote the critical email of the o-line performance after last week's game, I should rewatch the game again and diagnose the o-line.

First some summary stuff. Overall, a lot fewer mistakes. One adjustement that was made, at times, was to have the center block the tackle, and let the guard fire off and hit the LB, instead of double teaming the tackle. This is what happened on the long TD run by massey. Poynter handled the Tackle, and BK fired of on a LB, and it was a huge hole. Another great adjustment was that last week, the vast, vast majority of running plays were delays. This game, we hit them fast several times, and it was much more effective. We also actually worked playaction into the scheme, and it was successful. Need it more though.

The best adjustement however, was the introduction of the 2 TE, QB under center, power run. We ran it once to the left near the goalline and it was blown up. Every other time we ran left behind (usually) Urbanus, DJ, and V Chase. And got yards every single time, and mostly it was in short yardage situation where UAB knew we would run. We finally have a play where we can get 3 yards a pickup.

Romo was obviously fantastic. The difference between the two games was that in the Marshall game, he made decisions quickly, but threw bad passes and perhaps made decisions too quickly because he had plenty of time and the corners were pressing us. Against UAB, he made quick decisions, threw accurate passes, and because they were giving us a cushion, players were open when he wanted to throw.

A big surprise was that after reviewing tape, our running backs actually did a much worse job of picking up the blitz.

Here is a lowdown player by player:
DJ: Easily our best blocker. Pulled twice and made fantastic blocks on the run, which our other players have trouble with. Also helped with the great surges on the 2 TE set. Allowed pressure a couple of times, but wasn't beaten for sacks. He missed one block on a misdirection QB run that Romo got creamed on, but that was his only big mistake.

Urbanus: MUCH, MUCH improved. Didn't see much time at Marshall, and was the worst palyer when he was in there. Against UAB, was directly responsible for most of the big blocks on the 2 TE set. Had one major mistake where he let a tackle through on a run for a big loss, but was never physically dominated over the course of the game.

Poynter: Struggled at times, but much better than the Marshall game. Had a nice block on the TD to allow BK to fire off on the LB. Other than that, not outstanding. Got called for holding once, got manhandeled ona delay once that got a run blown up, lost a stunt on a draw play that got it killed, was blown up on the short yardage 2 TE run to the right side. Missed a couple other blocks. Much better decision making than in the Marshall game, but still was beaten physically a few times.

BK: Started off poorly. Whiffed on a stunt, missed a block in pass formation, doubled on a tackle and allowed the LB to come in and blow a run up. Then, came alive. Made a big pull block in the 2 TE set, had a nice block on a power sweek, had a nice block on the long TD run on the LB. Several other nice blocks in the running game, and wasn't beaten in the pass game.

Guidry: struggled more than last week. Missed a block on a sweep right, blocked nobody on a blitz resulting in a rushed pass, gave up a sack, doubled the tackle one play and allowed the DE to go straight in a rusha pass, missed a block on a pulle, missed a couple of other pass blocks resulting in heavy pressure. Poor job pass blocking, did have some good run blocks.

Peveto: Really struggled the times he was in. Lost a player on a stunt to give up a sack. Was absolutley manhandled on a running play, missed a stunt on our first TD pass that put Romo under pressure. Whiffed on a couple of other bloks.

V Chase had a few really nice blocks in the 2 TE set and also had a nice seal on a run outside to the left.

Massey missed three blitz pickups and one miss block leading for Martin.

Dorsey missed one blitz pickup.

Martin started off slow. He had two runs early where he had huge holes between the tackle and the guard, and he tried to run between the guard and center. He just flat out missed the holes, the blocks were there and would have been huge gains. He had a good blitz pickup and after that the long TD run seemed to pick him up and he ran well after that.
