word on the street is that Laura Miller has blown it again and it is now a foregone conclusion that Dallas will lose the OU-Texas game. Pretty sad. I don't care about either team, but the can't do city strikes again. "Penny wise and pound foolish" pretty much describes this mayor and city government.

Not sure if any of you saw her on Hanen's Texas/OU "Let me build my ego.." show on friday night. She was actually quoting Switzer about the game to Hansen.. and his repsonse was.. "..you're quoting Switzer to me of all people?" Pretty damn funny for those of you that know how well those 2 get along.

He grilled her pretty good though.. and I agree with you.. it's a sad sad day when the announcement comes that we've lost this game. I fear it's coming soon..

well, you need to blame all the members of the council as well, and the dallas county officials as well. Fair Park isn't just a Dallas jurisdiction, and Laura Miller can only do anything if the council agrees with her. ( I will admit that she makes it very difficult for them to do many times). Speaking of power, weren't the members of the City Council that were opposed to the Blackwood amendment supposed to present their own stronger mayor proposal for the November ballot? Anybody no anything about it? Did they get it on the ballot?

Put some blame on Mary Suhm, too. She's the city manager. And Dallas is a city manager form of government, not mayoral like Houston.

I understand the council form of government, but Miller's stated views are her own. Also, even in a council-manager form of government, she is the one with the platform and microphone in her face. She should be setting the vision and applying the pressure to the council by getting popular support for the vision.

So, are they going to Arlington or home and home? Home and home won't be the same...just another game. The greedy schools are almost as bad as Laura.

Just thinking outloud on a day off from work, so do not yell at me. IF the UT/OU game is lost to Dallas, would it not make sense to schedule our one big name team games there each year during the Fair. When we play TT or A&M or OSU etc. we seem to be out numbered at our stadium anyway so why not play that game at the Cotton Bowl. Bill it as the annual "House that Doak Built" game and try to pull in some extra revenue. If we ever get the right kind of promoter like we had during Mustang Mania it is possible we could even have a good crowd of SMU folks on hand. I love Ford and the closeness and home field advantage but this could give us some needed exposure in a town that kind of overlooks us for the most part. Especially if there is a 12th game added.

I actually like that idea.....it might even be something to try if they do keep the ou/ut in Dallas. I'm just glad we finally got it figured out that we shouldn't play a home game the same day as the ou/ut game. I will never forget the SMU/Hawaii game that was on tv and we had I think 7 peope in the stands besides the players families and the band. We lost too. Very bad day.

yes, I for one think that would be a very good thing to do. Games during the State Fair are great. Good PR outside of the Bubble to let people know SMU is still trying to play big time football. I wouldnt mind playing the TCU game every year. Might be hard to convince TCU to do it, but that might add some sizzle back to the rivalry.

if something isn't done soon the days when a BCS school plays an actual road game in non-conference may be over. This has got the stopped for the good of the game. I bet there are some networks that are not too happy with the product they are getting. College Football is a great game-but if they don't watch it, greed lwill slowly erode the game as in baseball.

Can't see why the Cotton Bowl cannot be rebuilt and marketed for things like concerts(The Texas Jam), Texas-OU, Battle of the Bands, TCU-SMU, and Tech-A&M plus the Cotton Bowl. If they slap on a retractable roof and make the place look nice we can actually have the Cotton Bowl become a major player in the BCS picture. 80,000 seats is a plus as well. The Sugar Bowl has major issues right now and the Cotton Bowl needs to step up.

if you don't understand that the game is over for the Cotton Bowl then you don't understand college Football today. The Cotton Bowl will never be a BCS Bowl again. UT and OU will leave after a few years. The Cotton Bowl is economically uncompetitive and now that Laura Miller blew the chance for the 21st Century-we should just let it die a peaceful death and not flush millions of dollars down a dry hole. How could a Dallas Mayor blow the chance to make the Cotton Bowl a BCS Bowl again, the Texas-OU game and the Dallas Cowboys not to mention investment in South Dallas at a redeveloped Fair Parkand then have the gall to come back to us and want to flush 50-60 million down the drain. That's 4 institutions which made the City of Dallas great-and she blew it.

Just think what the Cowboys could have done and how it would have helped revitalize (spelling?) Fair Park area.

A perfect example; see Coors Field.

I lived in Denver for a while and the area that Coors Field was built was very simliar to Fair Park.. drug dealers, a pocket of poverty and just down right dangerous.

Now.. Lower Downtown (Lodo) is happening.. and it helped the entire Denver Downtown area thrive with new businesses.
