Marshall game cost us a bowl gameI remember thinking that while i watched the game! It was the kind of home cooking [deleted] that will come back and bite us. After seeing last week's game, I am know convinced of that!
Very doubtful that we get within one game of bowl eligible this year. We need to start making our own breaks and the rest will take care of itself. The good news is that CUSA has good bowl tie ins that will allow us, when we improve, to get to a bowl game with 7 or possibly even 6 wins. In the good old days we had better have 8 or more wins to be selected for a bowl due to our poor traveling habits.
Actually I figured that our bowl hopes were history when we lost to Baylor. Beating Tulane and Marshall or Marshall and UAB could have made up for it.
Actually now Tulsa looks tough and ECU will not be any push over as thought after last season although we should be big favorites over Rice. Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Marshall game cost us a bowl gameC'mon...you lost one (Marshall) you probably should have won and you certainly won one (UAB) you should have lost. Basically, you probably got what you deserved, only in reverse...you should have lost to UAB and beaten Marshall. It's just the way the game of football goes. In the long run, those games will even out. Besides, if you beat Marshall, maybe SMU comes out flat against UAB, gets behind and is never in the game???
Sucks to play the what-if game though. What if we had beaten SMU? We would be top 15 and in the BCS discussions. Of course, I doubt we would have won our next four games if we had won at SMU.
Whether we deserved to win at Marshall or not, SMU outplayed UAB, and deserved the win. Plus we really thumped TCU, which is the best part. I have no knowledge of the call at Marshall, since I haven't seen the game, but we had opportunities to suck it up and hold for a win and didn't do it.
Re
Hey, I was the first TCU person on the board congratulating SMU on the win at UAB. So, I am not trying to take anything away from SMU. I'm just saying it's easy to play the what-if game. For TCU, we have what-if SMU (this year), what-if So Miss (2002) and what-if SJSU (2000). You guys spanked us this year and I am looking forward to the next one at TCU. Wouldn't bother me a bit to see SMU in a bowl game BTW. I'll be pulling for SMU this weekend.
Re: Re
you're cool with me, reedfrawg. i get your point. we have no business talking about a bowl game anyway.
Re SJSU game...Nothing with the officials during the SJSU game. However, the field was a mud pit despite the fact it had not rained there in several days. That is a fact. Rumor has it sprinklers were running and a soccer game (fact I have heard) was played on the field a day or two before the game. It certainly hurt us because we should have had a speed advantage. No excuse for losing to SJSU however.
Also, we did lose to OU in '98 at home and we got apology letters from the league for 2 blown calls...both of which took TDs off the board. We end up losing on a fluke onside kick and a last second FG 10-9 (we kicked 3 FGs). So, I (and every other fan in the country) feel your pain. Everyone has lost (and won) games they should not have. That's all I'm saying. Good luck against ECU!
Layoff the Kool-Aid! I week ago we were looking for a high branch and rope for Bennett and Krispy Kopeland. Now we are talking bowl's !??
Obviously you did not attend the Tulane game.
I thought it that day and I still believe it to be true! Go SMU beat UTEP and take that CUSA aplogogy from Marshall game and put an * on this year!
