2. SMU 27 ... UAB 22
SMU got a 31-yard jump ball touchdown catch from Bobby Chase with no time left on the clock to complete an 80-yard drive in 22 seconds. Mustang QB Jerad Romo completed a 20-yard pass to Chase to start the drive, and then completed two more passes to get down to the UAB 31 with three seconds left. Chris McMurtay connected on field goals from 27, 32 and 22 yards out for the Mustangs to go along with a touchdown catch from Devin Lowery and a 38-yard scoring run from DeMyron Martin, but UAB managed to come back in the fourth quarter taking a 27-22 lead with a 13-yard Dan Burks scoring run with 3:38 to play. Darrell Hackney connected on touchdown passes from 89 and 50 yards out to Reggie Lindsey, who finished with 184 yards.
Player of the game: SMU QB Jerad Romo completed 30 of 43 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns.
