All this talk about QB

There's been a lot of talk about why Bennett doesn't give Phillips some playing time at QB. Also concerns about lifting Justin Willis' RS this late in the year.
Question for those who are paying attention: Phillips is listed as a SO on the roster at smumustangs.com, yet he played as a true FR in 2003 and played early last year before the injury. Has he already been granted the RS from last year? Or, was the plan to have him RS this year to preserve 2 more years eligibility?
It certainly appears the plan is to go with Romo the rest of the way, but what happens in a blowout or if he gets hurt? If Phillips' RS is already burned, then I agree he should be #2 and should see some playing time as soon as any game appears out of reach or even just to give the defense another look. I would hate to see Willis burn a RS by running a few series over the course of 2-3 games

I would agree but, yesterday on the boulevard I heard this...
If Willis is going to be the QB next year and not phillips, does it not make sense to get him some real game playing time?
Oh I think Phillips is out - This all may be Coach Speak too.
Just what I heard.

It appears right now that next year we are going to have a very experienced team with a qb with little or no prior playing time. What should we be doing about that? This year is gone, we should be doing everything we can to be successful next year.

SMU is going to be worse next year than this year.
We lose our LBs--only 2 upperclassmen return
We lose half of our secondary
We lose our punter and FG kicker
Our currently bad o-line returns for a command performance. Depending on freshmen to replace the current group is not a great way to shore up the o-line.
We will have to start a freshman at QB next season--true or red-shirt. Wasting a red-shirt with 4 games to play is idiotic.
It is going to be a lot worse next season. This year was our best chance to win.

in defense of the OL, they looked pretty good at times yesterday...especially when the M&M boys (McKinney and Martin) lined up in the I and those linemen got down in a 3 pt stance. It's all about leverage on the line and when our guys are crouched in pass protection mode, they get blown up more often than not.
With McKinney leading the way, Martin had some nice holes to run thru yesterday.

ECU is terrible at stopping the run. Even we looked good blocking them. Very deceiving. Won't look so good this week at Tulsa.

Looks to me like coach B will try to bring in one or more JUCO QBs again. Are the recruiting services saying anything about that possibility, JUCO QBs with an interest in SMU?

No but they don't cover Texas JC very well. We are listed as in contention for 1 JC player a CB Antonio Wilson from Kansas. He's favoring other schools. The database has about 16 pages with 30 prospects on each page so about 480 players only 9 of which are from Texas.
