4 games left, 2 home & 2 away.
Tulsa 4-3 on a mini run beating SMiss & Rice also beat Memphis & lost to UH
Rice 0-5 looks lost
UH 3-3 is up & down. Played UTEP close, beats Tulsa & Tulane and falls to Memphis.
UTEP 4-1 with key games with Marshall, UAB & Tulsa left. Key win over New Mexico.
Realistically 1-3 or 2-2 down the stretch to go either 3-8 or 4-7 for the season. Big wins over TCU & UAB. Does Bennett deserve another year?
I say he stays unless he loses to Rice and goes 0-4 down the stretch. ECU game takes any wind out of the sails for the season and team could crater the rest. Rice has struggled but will be up for the game.
Bottom line is has there ever been a coach to last as long as Bennett at any school with this record? I tried to find someone & couldn't.

Well if it does come down to Rice making or breaking PB the real question is ‘Who will you be rooting for that day’

I have rooted for SMU all season, except one game. I have only been to 2 games this year, but live in Dallas and would love to see the program back. If SMU had turned the corner and actually threatened to make a bowl game this year it would have been tremendous.
That being said, depending upon what happens at Tulsa, I may actually root for Rice for several reasons. One being I hate for any school to have a losing season and second it would be the end of the Bennett era. No matter how you feel about the man, he hasn't done it for the school. This year and the next are the two most promising season based upon recruiting and after that the talent level begins to fall off. If you go 3-8 in one of the seasons with the most promise, the future doesn't look bright.
Bennett was correct that this year there was more depth and that depth will fall off in the next few years unless there is some huge push to bring in some top JUCOs. Next season you will probably start a QB that has never played a down in college unless CPB burns his RS, which would be a huge mistake and out of desparation.
Good luck and I hope SMU wins out, but ECU game was a huge letdown for the casual fan at least.

2-2 would be like the TB Devil Rays winning the World Series
1-3 is somehwat realistic only because Rice is probably a lot worse than us
I'm not intentionally trying to be negative or get anyone's goat. I'm trying to be honest. This prgram needs honesty, and not some Sunshiners and Pollyannas telling us that things will be better next year.

I agree that 1-3 from here on out is about the best we can expect, but judging from Bennett's past performances preparing for Rice...SMU could be just the opponent Rice needs to avoid a winless season.
Tulsa appears to be a much improved program and UTEP and Houston have more talent than we do. For those of us who still even care, I hope we are at least competitive in each and every game.

We'll at least split the last four. I hope.
We do so many things better than we have in the past .... but (stop me if you've heard this before) the mistakes were a killer yesterday. (That's breaking news, huh? I bet the DMN will can Calvin Watkins and hire me after that exposé.)

I think you are right CP. A very likely scenario is that we go 0-4. What a bitter pill that is. To think that Rice is going to come in here and option us to death is disgusting. Bennett has never shown that he can stop the triple option. If 2-9 doesn't shake up this program top to bottom I don't know what will and I'm not just talking about coaches. A new AD is an absolute must.
