Is goalline "jumbo" even in Burn's vocab

Postby tmustangp » Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:53 am

how does a 4-4 record sound so far.. well thats what we would be if Burn's would stop running that slow developing zone play out of the shotgun when we have a 1 and goal inside the 5 freaking yardline..

Can we not put chase and kennedy and our fullback in on these occasions and just run the ball between the tackles and maybe throw in a PA everyone once in a while.. the last two weeks we have been 1 and goal and martin has been tackled for aloss and we end up w/ a fg instead of a td.. it really makes me sick..

just close up the lineman splits and put in a jumbo package and let our boys play some diesel (strength coach 4 those of you who don't know) football and punch someone in the mouth on the goalline

The playcalling in the 'red zone' is baffling.

Running out of the shotgun inside the 5 yard line on first down is insane,
or maybe just plain LAZY on the OC's part. Use the T-formation, Wing-T,
Power I, Wishbone, any power offense that any offense needs to know
for those 3rd, and 1 situations.

By God, you've got 4 downs to make 5 yards. Just do something they
haven't seen you do yet? Can you actually design new plays, practice
them, and use them in the same season? Have some imagination kinda
like Hayden Fry.

No wait, I remember we always called him "Fieldgoal Fry" for always
kicking the for the 3 points on 4, and 1 from the 1.

I'm also frustrated by the play-calling inside the 10. I like my chances giving the ball to Martin 3 times in a row... I remember him running over several TCU defenders to get to the goal in his debut.

the coaches are out-smarting themselves and it's obvsiously not working.

a run on 1st and 2nd, and consider a pass on 3rd... that sounds reasonable normally...

sigh

Not sure how tough it is to outsmart our coaching, however I would love to see moments where our coaching staff actually learns from their mistakes and makes adjustments. Thus getting smarter.

At the goal line with one yard to go, its about strength and desire. I didn't see the game, so I don't know if our line was being handled all day, or if not. A running back generally still has a tough time getting into the endzone if there is not a crack for him to fall through. But I agree that getting under center gives you also the ability to either run or fake the QB sneak.

Our line was not being handled. They did a very good job -- Martin had room to run, and Romo was barely hit all day.

The spread offense always is a problem near the goal line. There is much less room for the receivers to "spread" and that makes for a good time to blitz some LBs up the gaps.

I agree, we need a jumbo or what ever happened to the I formation on the goal line?
