New coach?

Just to preface, i've been a big bennett supporter since day 1, and think that we need to give him through next year.
Could we get John Blake to come be our head coach? he won't take another assistant or coordinator job anywhere but where he is (Neb), but would take a head coaching job. He's got head coaching experience (OU), and knows how to recruit better than anyone in the country (IMHO and many others' too)
thoughts? Stallion?

Hmmm....no thank you. John Blake told the Cowboys when he was hired by OU that he was willing to stay until the end of the season and they said "No thanks." In other words, they didn't want him either. I have zero interest.

He can recruit and deserves some of the credit for building the roster for the OU national champion team.

Coach Blake can recruit, but he can't coach. That's the same complaint many have about Coach Bennett, who is the coach I want the Ponies to win for.

He might be able to recruit, but I would think from what I remember he would make PB's game day coaching look great.

Put down the crack pipe. Jeff Blake was a terrible coach at OU and was only able to recruit based upon OU being OU. His record there was like 12-22. With our talent, his record here would be much worse.
Blake was never head coaching material. That is why he is not a head coach now. At least Bennett was an unknown commodity when we went out on a limb with him. We know how much Blake sux as a coach.

Caught a little of Babe Laufenberg's lame Cowboys pregame show on Sunday and the "where are they now" segmetn featured Charlie Waters. Said how he really wanted to coach SMU and felt like he'd have been a perfect fit, but SMU apparently did not think so. Sounded a little bitter. Don't blame him, the way things have turned out for SMU...

Ah yes. Charlie Waters. Surely every rivals top 100 recruit of the last 4 years is chomping at the bit to play for him. Well, I think they might if they knew who the heck he was...

Yeah, well he was a finalist for the job and I hesitate to say that every rivals top 100 guy wanted to come play for Phil Bennett.

And I will hesitate to say that the DC of an excellent K State team at the time had more name recognition with the youth then a three-time pro bowler from the 70's.

And again, what has that translated to as head coach of SMU? This is going to turn into a stupid debate we don't need to have Eddie P, Bennett got the job and Waters didn't. SMU has languished under Bennett, his fault or not, and we just don't know what Waters could have done. But I suspect not worse, in recruiting or on the field, where to fruits of recruiting are supposed to be reaped.

I bet some of the youngsters would know who he is. 7-11 has been selling Legend Medallions with his mug on it. I think some of you don't realize how big a name Charlie Waters is in Dallas.

actually I'd say ZERO Top 100 Texas recruits want to play for Phil Bennett this year. But every Momma and every Daddy not only knows who Waters is but considers him a hero. I guarantee you he gets his foot in the door of more homes than Bennett if for that reason alone. It would be difficult for any Coach to do worse than Phil Bennett. 8-35-which I'm sure places him in the lower 99% of all-time Division 1-A coaches, but go ahead and laugh because apparently the laugh was on us. I find it incredible that so many of you disniss a NFL Defensive Coordinator with 7 years NFL coaching experience including 4 playoff appearances, Cotton Bowl Defensive Coordinator, the multiple winner of the most popular Dallas Cowboy and the darling of the Dallas media even to this day as being so obviously inferior to what we have gotten from Phil Bennett. But hey enjoy YOUR choice. Ha Ha Ha

Actually, our choice, one way or the other, had nothing to do with it...just like our choice will make no difference when the next round of hiring takes place, whether for coach or AD...or both.
