Lots of folks on here saying SMU just needs to 'hang it up' with football and concentrate on basketball and other sports.

So...what does SMU do with Ford Stadium if that were to happen?

Is there any stipulation that the C-USA championship game *must* be played where there's a C-USA football team or in the city of either team in the game itself? Propose to the C-USA officials that Ford Stadium would be the 'official' C-USA Championship Game site each year. Nice venue...although the audio system s&cks. Maybe C-USA would sink some $$$ into it since SMU won't. And Dallas is an attractive city for whichever teams and its fans would be in the championship game.

Also...Why not just 'lease' Ford Stadium out to the Dallas ISD each year for its high school football games on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays? And also make it available each year for the UIL to use during playoff games in November and December instead of Texas Stadium (which will probably see a wrecking ball before long anyway!) or the Cotton Bowl (also needs to be demolished)?

The $$$ from leasing out Ford could then be turned around to renovate Moody Coliseum and get more interest in the basketball program.

Your thoughts?

Don't be a defeatist. There is no good reason that we should not be able to do it all. It's not like the University is as poor as a church mouse. We need to find a way to get a real commitment out of the Trustees/Admin and then pursue the objective. Besides, this is football country....

Hang it up in football? Hold your horses [pun intended] a minute. Magicman65, I'm a little disappointed that YOU would even entertain such a notion.

Do YOU think I would let something as devastating as THAT happen to SMU Football? DO you? Not on MY watch, Mr. [pun intended].

Some of you just need to get a grip and realize that winning at football isn't what makes the world go 'round, at least not at SMU. Look at Vanderbilt, Tulane, etc...they're not exactly lighting up the scoreboards all the time, are they?? NO, but they have some of the finest STUDENT-ATHLETES in all of the NCAA. Do you just want me to recommend we let a bunch of derelicts in this school who can't spell their names much less SMU? Sure, they might be able to run a 4.0-40 or bench press 600 lbs, but do you want them if they all they want to do is weave a frickin basket? Well, DO YOU? Is that what you want YOUR DEGREE to be worth?

SMU will win games again one day (at least that's what my sources tell me). You must be patient like PK, Diamond Jim and SWC200000. They know that there's always NEXT YEAR. Always. And guess what--it's true. There is ALWAYS next year! We just might get lucky and be able to cobble together a bunch of 4.0 students who can have a winning season. So, stop WHINING and talking about the end of SMU Football, go out and buy a ticket or eight, and let's go beat those Eagles!

Are you with me??

I bought my SIX season tickets, jerk...and had another 8 given to me by another season ticket holder who didn't want to drive to Dallas to see the games.

And, no...I'm not! See the sign below.

MM65, I doubt the economics of renting out Ford work; otherwise we could lease out Ford today and still maintain our FB program. Maybe there are restrictions from UP. Also, don’t know why you’d think a new facility would be the cure-all for BB. That certainly was not the case with FB. Unfortunately our problems run deeper than that.

And Dobey, may I be so bold as to recommend the following Avatar???

MM65 I think you are just fed up with the lies and lying liars at SMU who constantly try to sell us that SMU is so close. Well I'm fed up too. I'm fed up to here. Your license plate should read to fire Turner. Go right to the top. The buck stops with Turner. Get that rascal out and get someone in who wants to win. If the guy at the top doesn't want to win not much the middle manager can do.

LOL!

yeah - i know - can't blame u guys a bit!!!

my only point - for what its worth - is that the problem lies with both the board & turner & that they genuinely don't care -

this idea that the athletic program has to pass the mustard of the faculty senate wackos doesn't make sense at all -

i can't imagine anyone giving full power to the inmates running the asylum but then again, its our university system today, too -

what a joke!

You can't figure out how to run an athletic department, either.
